Finally getting it done!

I think I first started coming here in 2005. I have been debating having an TAH for years. I have had no problems with bleeding, and actually have had no periods for well over a year now. I am 51.

That is one reason I waited so long. Some told me that after menopause the fibroids shrink [which is what I have], but after doing research, have learned that fibroids the size I have [when I went in for my last consult he said my uterus was the size of a football!], often don't shrink all that much even after menopause.

Well, the last month or so the symptoms I *do* have really started getting to me. The feeling of having a rock in my stomach, having trouble bending over [my center of balance being off], the feeling of pressure against my lungs that I feel when I breathe, it growing and shrinking and those times it is larger feeling like everything is going to fall out!

So, I am having my operation May 14. I have been getting nervous about going under, and thinking of possible complications. Any advice or encouraging words would be appreciated!

Finally getting it done!

Hi sarahb,
I just had a LSH (laparoscopic hysterectomy) and I was very nervous about going under also and being sick when I woke up. But it was'nt bad at all.
They did put a patch behind my ear for any possible nausea. Once I got in the OR and laid on the table I was out in a matter of seconds. They don't mess around! And what seemed like no time at all I was being woke up in recovery.
You should feel much better after you get rid of that football!

Best wishes!

I too am worried about being sick when I wake up. Actually I am more afraid of being nauseated and throwing up then the pain of the surgery.
