Breast Surgeon Tomorrow - What Happens?

My GYN scehduled my urgent appt. w/ a Breast Surgeon. It is set for tomorrow, Friday. I am so stressed. I don't know what to do.

I already know I have lung nodules that are being watched carefully for malignancy. My Pulmo and I have pushed off a lung biopsy since it would have to be open lung due to the location of the nodules. We have tried just about every other diganostic test and even talked at our last meeting about scheduling the biopsy.

Now I find these breast lumps and chest lumps. So not good. I am wondering if I waited too long. My last 3 mammograms and breast ultrasounds have been suspicious and I have been classified as Birads 3.

So, what happens 1st at the Breast Surgeon's office? I am so scared ! Talk about not being able to sleep!

Sisters, HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Who knows anything about Breast Surgeons?

Thank you.

Breast Surgeon Tomorrow - What Happens?

I've been where you are a number of times. Protocol at my clinic is, as for you, for gyn to refer patient to a surgeon (general / breast) after mammograms and possibly ultrasound. Surgeon will review reports, do a clinical breast exam, and order a biopsy if necessary. Depending on various factors, biopsy may be one of various types of core needle biopsies or surgical biopsy. (Surgical incisional biopsy takes only sample of lesion. Surgical excisional biopsy takes out whole lesion / lump, so therefore is a lumpectomy before knowing what lesion is.) Results of the biopsy are reported to surgeon and then the surgeon will advise the patient.

Good luck. After feeling a lump, my gyn sent me to a surgeon. Surgeon felt it and immediately knew it was a cyst. He aspirated it right then. Turned out, he said, to be one of the biggest he ever drained -- almost a shot glass of fluid!! You never know.
