Sharp pain in side, 4 weeks post-op

Hi Everyone,

I am 4 weeks post-op. I had a TAH with BSO. I have been feeling really great but yesterday morning I started with a sharp pain on the right side of my abdomin. It's kind of centered inbetween my ribs and hip bone. Last night it got so bad it hurt to cough, sneeze and get off the couch.
I was doing a lot of cooking and baking over the weekend but no heavy lifting. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Could this just be a pulled muscle?? I'm still having the pain and the more I move around the worse it gets.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

It may possibly be trapped gas. I had a sharp pain like that but mine was 7 weeks post op. My GYN recomended gas -x tablets. Before you try any gas medicine . You need to contact your Doctor. It could also possibly your appendix since its on the right side.

Thanks for the reply...I am going to call my Dr's office this morning. The pain became very severe last night to the point where I could hardly move, yet in the morning it always seems better. I just don't want to be in the same position again tonight.
Thanks.

I am sorry you are going through this and I want to tell you it will get better. I agree you should call your doctor, but I wanted to tell you what my experience with this pain was. I had very sharp pain on my right side between my ribs and my hips and it would hurt so bad sometimes I couldn't move. It turns out my surgeon ties the fascia sp? stitch to my muscles up there to hold everything in place. I guess it was holding my bowels etc in place so it wasn't pushing on my other areas while they where healing. As you get further along it will dissolve and eventually go away. My doctor just tied it really tight because my surgery was a radical and she had to keep everything out of the way so to speak. Maybe this is what is causing your pain? If so, I just woke up one day and it was gone. The stitch must have finally dissolved or broke or something. She told me if it hurt after 6 weeks to do some circular massages in the area to help it break up. Hope this helps. Just wanted you to know it will get better.
