over did it

I just hit my five week post surgery day and I think I over did it. My abd. hurts every time I sit up, bend over, stoop down... If I rest and take it easy the next few days will I be ok? I have heard so many people say take it easy and i have up until now. (I scrubbed the stove and microwave today and cleaned the bathroom sink, cupboard, toilet and floor two days ago). I know it was stupid but I couldn't stand it anymore. I haven't vacuumed and I am still getting help carrying the laundry basket but the mess is driving me nuts. I have my six week check up in 6 days. Will I magically be able to do the other house work then? I was really surprised at how much discomfort so little work could cause.

Please do not understimate how major this surgery was.
The mess drives me mad too, but this is short term and it's not worth delaying our healing by being too house proud.

Hope you are feeling less sore and good luck for your check up.

Sammy is right... it is still very early.. My doctor told me if my DH could vaccuum for 6 wks, he could do it for a few more... Surprisingly , this is still happening... I found that cleaning the bathtub was the hardest, because my swelly belly got in the way... Bending over is probably the hardest thing. Wish I had bought one of those grabber things in hindsite.

Hi there - I am sure you will feel better soon, just rest and take it easy for the next 2-3 days.

And I understand what you mean by the mess - I live by myself and am 1 day short of my 6 week mark. I will only do some cleaning if it doesn't involve bending down or lifting. So I have cleaned the kitchen and bathroom cupboards, I cook and wash my dishes and will fold and hang my clothes....and so what if it will take me 6 hours and 10 rest breaks to do all of that! lol .... but i will not vaccuum, sweep the floor, wash the bathtub, clean the toilet, do the laundry or take out the garbage!

So I say - so what if it is messy....I am practising turning a blind eye to things that really don't matter.

Have you practised asking for help? I send out a weekly email to all my friends (BFF and acquaintances) to remind them that I still have lifting restictions and need help with certain things. I have been fortunate that my 2 of my BFF's have stepped up to the plate and they have cleaned and did my laundry once a week. My other two BFF's, who haven't been able to dedicate time to clean, have been available to help with running errands and popping by to visit and take out garbage.

Take it easy and remember to pamper yourself
