First day alone with kids

So tomorrow will be two weeks from when I had my surgery - I'm feeling better, but still have some pain and I'm exhausted (how can that be when I've been in bed for most of the past two weeks??). Anyway, today is my first day alone with my two kids, I have an almost 5-year-old son and a 14-month-old son. My husband teaches a class after work, so he'll be gone ALL DAY - until almost 11pm. I'm not too worried about my 5-year-old, he's pretty independent and seems to understand when I can't do too much. It's my one-year-old that's the problem. He still needs to be picked up and carried a lot, and is VERY active, so I can't lie down at all when he's awake. There are only a couple rooms that would be completely safe to have him in without CONSTANT supervision, and he gets bored in those rooms quickly. And unfortunately, I don't have anyone I can call for help. It's hard not to call my husband for support, but he's so busy and stressed at work, I know the last thing he can deal with is another call from me. Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated.

First day alone with kids

At two weeks post-op you still need a lot of rest in order to recover .... and lifting a 14 month old is certainly out of the question: you could do irreparable damage

Is there any possibility of securing the services of a care-giver for the next few weeks? A friend or family member may be available to take care of the kids while you get your much needed rest. Or your Church or Community Services may have some programs available for just this type of situation.

This is the only chance to recover that you will have. You will not be much help to your family if you land back in the hospital

First day alone with kids

Bradox,

I am 5 days post op and had to be alone with my 4 kids ages 5 -12 and have found myself exhausted. While they can do most things for themselves they still need alot of attention and I can't really rest. My advice is reach out to someone for help. My DH doesn't really understand what it is I had done and just how careful I have to be. I feel great but am still in pain. I agree with Dany reachout to someone it's better than doing damage

First day alone with kids

Hi. I am in the same situation this minute. It's 9pm and my almost 4year old and 17 month old are not asleep yet. My surgery was May 5th so I am also about 2 weeks post surgery. I feel tired and the left side of my stomach hurts and something below throbs but what can I do, I have to take care of my kids. I do get a lot of help during the day, off and on, by friends and relatives who stop by but the early morning hours and evening are rough. Sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation but you are not alone.

First day alone with kids

Im also going through the same. My relatives are all so far away. My one girlfriend just bought a house close to me, but works weekends only...I can't ask her to take time off work. New job...new house...she really needs the money. And my hubby works out of town Fri-Sat-Sun. But he is home all week. So this is my first weekend alone with my 2 kids. 4yr ol daughter and 8 yr old son. The son is pretty easy .....EXCEPT I had to go pick him up friday at school with a stomach flu. Yes...he has been vomiting and diaharrea for all friday, into Sat Night (2.30am) then on with the diaharrea most Sat. So him and I feel exhausted and 4 yr old just wants to play. *sigh* She just doesn't get it. Im just over 2 weeks post op and TIRED! I can't believe this tummy bug had to show up on the weekend when I have no hubby around. I feel so awful for my son , but can't help but think PLEASE DONT LET ME CATCH THIS NOW!
Well....4yr old just took the rats out of their cage and I have to go hunt them down. Feels better to vent though...lol...only 7 more hours until hubby gets home.
