depends on type of hysterectomy you are getting, but with mine, they blocked off the vagina from my insides. But I think that depends if they are taking your cervix or not..not all that sure...I would say ask your DR when you see him, don't be embarassed either...

don't worry you will still be able to have sex. I have been told to wait 4-6 weeks post op before trying. I had a vaghysterctomy. I was worried about the same thing, your DR. is answering these questions every day so they will not be shocked at you asking, they will be more shoched if you don't.

take care

Hi!

Here's a link to a post-op article which answers what I think you're asking here: Sex - Where does the sperm go after hysterectomy?.

Doctors hear all kinds of questions and it's okay to ask. If you're shy about asking, it might be easier for you to write them down and hand the paper over so the doctor can read and respond. You'll want to know just what is and isn't allowed during your recovery so be sure to ask what restrictions you'll have.

I hope this helps!

I had to wait 6 weeks. I kept my cervix, so everything with sex is the same as it was.

If you keep your cervix I believe there is still a place for "it to go" but you should talk to Dr. I had to have mine removed so I have a cuff..no place but out now. I waited 6wks, until I was comfortable enough to have sex and it is just as good as before if not better. Good luck

I too left my cervix, and had to wait 6 weeks, but I waited 8 weeks to be extra sure I was healed....I was a bit nervous the first time after surgery, but it was all ok, I was a bit on the "dry side" but nothing major....

as to where does everything goes....well, it comes right back out, so keep plenty of tissues close by....everything else is the same....

I had to wait 8 weeks because some stitches had not healed all the way when my Dr checked @ 6 week post-op. So please go by your Dr's instructions -only Dr. will know what is going on inside---- you can't really go by how you are "feeling" b/c I felt great, had no pain & a very easy recovery so I was REALLY surprised to learn that some stitches had to have more time to heal. I waited 8 weeks & all was good (just a little messy(cervix was removed)--keep tissues nearby!)
Good luck with your surgery & recovery!!!
