Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

My TAH will be July 1st..I really feel like I dropped 'the ball' previously and since then I have researched ( this site is AWESOME!) and I have written down questions to ask, but I am hoping to hear from all the ladies now, Are there any questions you wished you had asked at your pre op and forgot to? ANYTHING would be helpful.
Thank you for anything I may have overlooked or not thought of!

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

Hi, have you checked out the list of pre-op questione here ( click here ) ? I used many of them and added a few of my own at my pre-op. The dr was great and tried to answer them all.

Best wishes.

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

Hi Jeanus!!
I wrote all the questions down from the pre op list, I was just wondering if someone had thought of something that wasn't listed. =)
Thanks for the hugs!!!

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

I asked what kind of floor I would be on post-op. I did not want to be put on a general surgery floor, and no offense spend three days next to an 80 yr old hip replacement groaning. I requested to be put on Maternity, the nurses ther are great. They took great care of me after my C/Sections and this surgery care is very similar. My doc agreed, and unless a bus full of pregnant ladies delivers all on Friday, I will go there!

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

I agree with Sillyme123. I waited all day for a bed, only to be put on the floor with all cancer patients. I did get a private room, but that was the only good thing about it. I felt bad for those patients, but I honestly don't think the nurses new what to do for me. I would try to get with the maternity section if possible

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

Many hospitals have an antepartum ward, where they put expectant ladies who are on bedrest, and those who are having gynecological surgeries. These usually have private rooms, too. That's where I'm headed - I spent many weeks there with both of my pregnancies, and it's a wonderful, attentive place to be. There's usually a high ratio of nurses to patients, so you can get the attention you need. You also don't have to hear those who are in active labor, which may not be the reminder some need right now.

Oh - also a question I picked up from another thread - "Can you have sex the night prior to surgery, as there will be none for 6 weeks?" Her dr's answer was to go for it! I'm waiting for my pre-op to see what mine will say.

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

My TAH is also scheduled for July 1. The one thing I forgot to ask my doctor is will I be in charge of my own pain through an I.V. or do I have to rely on the nurses for pain Meds. I will be discussing this one with him and my anastiaoligist when I go to the castle.

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

I still haven't had my surgery. But my doc said I would be on the maternity ward, in the section removed from new mothers.

Pre-op questions you wished you had asked?

Ask your dr. what kind of pain meds will be used. I did not know untlil the morning of mine that I was getting an epidural. Scared me to death because I never had one because I had never had any children.

If you are childess and on the maternity ward, ask if they can give you a plain bag to take your belongings home in. Mine had the cutesy baby stuff on it and it brought tears to me when we rolled by the stork with the baby and I was leaving empty handed. Never had a pg., but wanted a baby so bad.
