17 Years Post-Menopausal

Hi, My hyst is this Friday. It is total and abdominal. I have 2 questions you may be able to answer me: 1) Since I completed my menopause 17 years ago, will I still have to go through that all over again?
2) Last year I got a complete tummy tuck and it turned out very flat and pretty. Will the abdom. hyst. make my stomach get big again?
Thanks, Bonnie

Wow, you must have gone through menopause very young ( we were born the same year ). I had my tah/bso 6 years ago and was 3 years menopausal at the time. I was started on hrt (estrogen only ) the day after my surgery but still had some pretty unpleasant menopausal symptoms until my dr & I found the right dosage for me. Now, I'm still taking it, but a much lower dosage. At seventen years menopausal, you may not experience any differences but I would discuss your worries with your dr. We are all unique individuals after all

I haven't had a tummy tuck and can't share about that. My tummy is a little different but not horrible. I can barely see the bikini line scar ( not that I'll ever wear a bikini again ).

Best wishes.

17 Years Post-Menopausal

I am 57 years young and 7 years menopausal. It has been 12 weeks since my hystrectomy and so far I have had only one symptom. At times it feels as if I am going to have a hot flash but it doesn't go any further than feeling fairly warm and sometimes a little prespiration. I had hot flashes from the age of 42 through 54 so I know what a full-fledged one feels like. I cannot do HRT as I have a sister with breast cancer. So far, so good, in terms of symptoms.

Can't advise on the tummy tuck - perhaps you could ask the doctor who did it if there is anything special you should be doing such as support garments or exercise.

You are so very encouraging, I feel much more at ease. Today when I did all the pre-op stuff at the hospital I found out he's going to go in through my belly button, 4 small holes, laperoscopy (?). I believe that heals faster and is less painful. Please pray, in 11 hours I'll be just laying there waiting to get on with it at 9:30, I feel ready and pretty confident. All of the supplies that were recommended have already arived so - - it's a Go!

Confused 321, Hi Debbie, Thank you for taking the time to care about me. I'm tired of going in circles and I'm ready to get on with it. 11 hours from now I will be laying there waiting for 9:30 to roll around and get it done!
I've purchased the recommended basics from our HysterSister Store and everything has arrived. Thanks so Much, bonniebolander
