My pre-op with doctor

Well, I had my pre-op with the surgeon on Monday. Basically I got the answers to my questions, and signed consent forms. He said no driving for two weeks, no baths (only showers) for two weeks, a one night, possibly two night, hospital stay, IV and catheter for one day, and nothing to eat after midnight the night before surgery. I go to the hospital for more paperwork and blood work Friday. I forgot to ask about going up and down stairs. Hopefully they can tell me at the hospital. Apparently I get Demerol for the first night. Ya-hoo! I've threatened my family with faking it to stay in the extra night! Although I know I need to obey my doctor, does this info sound about right? I'm having a TVH - removing only uterus and cervix.

My pre-op with doctor

Hey Sandy,

Sounds like the right info from your doctor. I had my TVH last Wednesday (7/25). Was in one night with morphine pump, then out the next afternoon with prescription for Percoset. Compared to what I thought it would be like, the surgery was a piece of cake. The waiting was absolutely the worst for me. Once I got to the hospital, it was like, hey, okay let's get this show on the road.

I had a lot of pain in the recovery room (although I was more out of it than really conscious). It just felt like I really really really had to pee. Well, clearly I had a catheter in and could not go to the bathroom. Once the packing and IV and leg balloon things and catheter and oxygen came off and out the next morning I felt MUCH better. Switched to Percoset, took a shower, and came home in the afternoon. Have felt better and better every day, just a little achy and muscle twingey over each ovary area (they only took uterus and cervix - left ovaries).

I was impressed by how clearly the pre-op nurse told me what was going to happen surgery morning and the level of care the nurses gave me on the floor. The night nurse even gave me a backrub - heaven!

If you have any other questions, just email me. I'd be happy to share anything you need to know.

God bless,
Becky B.

Sounds like your "good to go"

Sandy,
As Betty said, sounds like just about the same info I got before hand and it was all on target.

About stairs...my bedroom is upstairs so I planned ahead to not be downstairs for a 'few days' at least...I only lasted about two if that long. I could have stayed upstairs in my nest for a long time...had a cooler with juice by the bed, my computer is up here, music and books plus my DDs, DH and dear sister brought me food and even set a table up here for the evening meal. Such service...I really did feel like a !! However...the TV is downstairs...so I ventured down. As long as I took it one step at a time...I mean both feet hit each step and slowly...I was fine. I only came up and down once a day for the first week and then sparingly for the next week. It is really how you feel. My doctor...and this is MY doctor...CHECK WITH YOURS...made more fuss about lifting (NONE) and drinking water (LOTS).

Hand in there, Sandy...your wait is nearly done!!

Best Wishes,

Doc repeatedly said no lifting. Everything else you were told is right. The balloony thingy meantioned in the above posts is to prevent clots in your legs. It would be good to be aware of that

Hugs,
Adria
