Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I'm less than two weeks away. I've been reading about some ladies being shaved (at the area of incision) in the hospital. All along I had been planning to shave my legs and underarms the morning of my surgery. Who knows when I will be able to bend enough to do it again! Anyway, now I'm unsure. Were you able to shave your legs right before surgery, or is that a no-no?

Thanks, ladies, for all your questions and your support ~ I get a lot of great information from you!

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved my legs, like a week before. I didn't want to risk my surgery being cancelled. But, when in doubt, call the hospital or your doctor. Good Luck

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved mine on the Sunday before the Wed. surgery. Didn't shave again for a little over a week, then it wasn't to good. I sat on the toilet and I leaned to the side to get the out side and put my foot on the opposite knee to get the inside. It wasn't easy. I have a 9" vertical incision.

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved my legs and underarms the night before surgery. I was able to finally shave again yesterday, by putting my legs on a step stool, so I was not bending.

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved my legs and underarms the same day as my surgery. I was only told not to shave the pelvic region for risk of infection. You should ask your hospital or Dr. if it is alright, when in dought.

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved my legs and underarms the morning of my surgery. I didn't wear any lotions or make up though. I only shave my legs up to about 8 inches above my knees (I don't go all the way into the "nether regions").

Do not shave your pubic region at all!!!! They will shave you if they need to in the OR.

I have shaved my legs twice since the surgery (am 14 days post op today). It hurt to bend - but the itching was driving me nuts....(i shave my arm pits every day)

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

How about Nair, or Veet, one of those creme depilatories (sp). I would think there would be no nicks or cuts.

In my opinion, hairy legs are pretty low on the priority list when you are post-op. Maybe it's just a throwback to my hippy days, but I didn't care.

Shaving legs prior to surgery?

I shaved my legs this morning and underarms as I have surgery tomorrow. I did ask my doctor about this and he told me to stay away from the tutti area as they will shave that before surgery. So I didnt even go near it.

Each doctor is also different. Some dont care if you shave and some say no no. I would ask your doctor to be safe so that you feel comfortable going into your surgery!!
