People say the darndest things!

I found this elsewhere on this website:
In the past, Hystersisters has had women from anti hysterectomy websites register; not for hyst support but for the sole purpose of frightening members into not having a hyst. They will do anything to get their point across, and using words such as s p a y e d, c a s t r a t e d and n e u t e r e d are used by them for shock value.

The goal of Hystersisters is to maintain an environment that doesn't offend women with words like c a s t r a t e d, s p a y e d or n e u t e r e d. And since the censor doesn't know that some posts are about animals, it will substitute another word in every case.

Just in case someone thought I made up "snorfled" myself !!!

Truth be told, snorfled sounds vaguely dirty ... "Hey, honey, I know the six weeks isn't up yet, but maybe we could just do a little snorfling?"

Oh, that's gonna be my new word of the month. It's my birthday next week and now I know what I want! Please dear, just wrap me up a snorfle with a nice bow. Save it till after I see my surgeon and I'll enjoy it then. Ooh, can I have some chocolate and whipped cream on it? Please pretty please with a cherry on top?

I was a little annoyed when I joined that the "s" word isn't allowed here. While I can see why some would be offended, and I understand a little more now from what you just posted, I found that using that word to describe my upcoming surgery to people took the sting out of it and kept them from feeling sorry for me. I was really looking forward to it and didn't want to get into whole discussions and have to deal with that look that people get when they hear what's being done.

Ok, this darndest thing is a doozie: The senior doctor (a woman) who relased me said "Now, you have to realize that you're like a man now". Luckily I thought of it as in no more periods, but half an hour later I started crying. I think she meant that I no longer would have to go for annual check-ups.

She also, knowing that I had been concerned about getting a shorter vagina from a TAH and hoping for a TVH which wasn't possible due to the size of my uterus, almost immediately said "Well, you've gotten shorter!"

I think she was wacko. Glad she wasn't the one operating on me.

WOW, Charlotte! I can't imagine hearing that stuff from anyone, especially a doctor! Unreal.

My boss (male) asked how it went... and I said... do you really wanna know.. cuz I'll tell ya. I'm pretty open and honest and I would have told him every single detail.. he turned pale and walked away. I said, to his back... never ask me anything you dont want a specific answer too.

^LOL Good for you!

As far as I know, I'm not like a man, at least yet. This is how I explained my new meds to my son though. He wanted to know why I had surgery and STILL had to take a pill every day. I told him I'd turn into a man, hypothetically, if I didn't. That and a b*tch. ;-)

That really was not a nice appropriate thing for a healthcare professional to say, though.

What?! That's incredible! The worst (?) thing someone medical (a nurse, during my pre-op) said to me was, "Well, at least you have children, so a TAH-BSO is no big deal, right?" I know what she MEANT, but I thought it was rude none the less.

I guess I just expect more sensitivity from medical people than I do from others -- and FWIW, everyone ELSE I dealt with (GYN, oncologist, nurses, etc) were all fantastic. My oncologist even hugged me because she said I looked "scared" (ya think? ).
