First outing today 1 week post op

Well I had my 1 week post op today so we got up and left the house at 11:30 am. I had my appt that went well. My incisions look good, my urine is a little off but they sent it off for culture. Walked across the hospital for an appt for my oldest son. We than went to lunch and to Walmart and Sears. We got home about 6:30 pm. I am so darn beat. I just took 1 1/2 percocets. I had a little bit of brown today I don't know if that was from overdoing it yesterday or what. I think I will not attempt leaving the house again. The motion of the car ride was not fun either.

Should I be leaving the house more by now?

Wow I am surprised you were able to do as much as you did. I didn't try shopping until 3.5 weeks.......but I am a slower healer. I limited it to short runs and walked slow.

Listen to your body and rest, you have a lifetime to shop but only one time to heal.

I know, but the reason we did it was cause we live so far and we were near those stores and we had to pick up a few things. We did not spend too much time in the stores it was mostly time spent in the car. But like I said I won't be doing that again. I feel like crap and I am sure tomorrow will be worse.

Congrats on your first outing post-surgery! My doc also had me stay inside my apartment for the 1st full week. I went out on day 8 for the 1st time, walked 2 blocks to a restaurant, had lunch (hard to sit for that long though), and walked back home and up stairs (very slowly, one foot up then the other to the same step). And I was exhausted after that! My entire recovery has been 'two or three steps forward, one or two steps back'. When I've had energy, I go for it and use it, then rest after. It really took some time to build up my endurance, I just rested when I needed to--sometimes most of the day if I had 'overdone it' the day before. Best of luck to you, sounds like you're doing well. Allow for good days and 'bad' days, take it easy, rest and take care!

My surgery was the 30th, and I haven't left the house yet. I was going to go out today to vote in the primary, but I just couldn't face the idea of underwear since my incisions are making me a little nuts, and I'm kind of swollen - don't know if that happens much with laparoscopics, but it's there and uncomfortable. It was also close to 100 degrees today, so that pretty well clinched it for me.

Assuming you weren't the one driving, did you use a pillow between you and the seat belt? I did that for the trip home from the hospital, and I think I'll continue to use it for a while when I do go out starting later this week. It really made me a lot more comfortable.

Be good to yourself and give yourself time to heal. Just because they don't keep us in the hospital all that long anymore doesn't mean the actual healing is any faster.

Heya hope! I didn't take my first trip out of the house until 2 weeks. It was glorious though... It was mid-June, sunny... DH took the top off of the Jeep and we drove up to get ice cream. I was sooooo happy that evening! The next time I went out (the next day), I went to Target and Penneys. I paid for that one the next day and I was only out for about an hour! I can't imagine a whole day like you did!

I hope you are feeling well today and aren't paying for it too much!

Did you drive? Where you cleared to drive if you did?? Wow that sounds like alot in one day. I am not sure what kind of procedure you had but if it wasn't TAH you have to remember that you still have alot of healing going on inside that you can't see. I didn't start doing anything outside of the house until I was 2 weeks. Slow down some don't push it, give your body time to heal, you don't want a set back and make the recovery longer or have complications later down the road that could require another surgery. Rest sweetie and take care of the new you, your body will thank you later with a ton of energy and a pain-free new you. I hope you are feeling better today and get plenty of rest. Let us know how you are feeling.

Aware - No I did not drive. Dh took me. It really was only planned to go to the dr's appt. I am not feeling all that bad today, but I am headed back to bed in a bit.

Oh and I am cleared for driving after I am off pain meds, which I am not off of them yet so I guess that means no driving.

First outing today 1 week post op

Well, i had my first short outing yesterday at 1 week and that was only to my daughter's school to do a quick orientation thing for 6th graders. i live in the country so there wasn't any traffic around AND i held off taking any pain meds for the day until i got back. I did call the nurse before hand and she said since it was at 1 week i should be fine as long as it's not in high traffic areas driving.

My first outing will be to go out to eat this weekend i hope because i'm seriously getting cabin fever and need to see other people besides my family.

I'm taking it easy today and i haven't had to take any meds so hopefully i'll recover enough by next week to venture out on my own if only for a couple of hours!!
