Appointment w/OB to discuss prolapse, what should I know?

Monday I finally scheduled an appointment with my OB. I haven't seen him since his first diagnoses back in Oct. for a prolapsed uterus and slight bladder and rectum.

At the time we had a list of things to try before I decided on a hysterectomy, but alas, I am positive that I am in need of a rectum repair and bladder.

So what should I expect? A referal to a Urogynocolgist? (sp?) And does a Urogyncologist do all the repairs and hysterectomy? Or do you have to see seperate doctors?

Also when it comes to the hysterectomy I know he mentioned that he does then laproscopoly, and that my cervix would be removed, but the ovaries stayed. Can you have a hysterectomy with the bladder and rectum repairs and still keep your cervix?

I am just wanting to have a check list of questions and kind of get an idea from you ladies as to what I can expect?

Thanks in advance

Appointment w/OB to discuss prolapse, what should I know?

Two doctors in the same clinic did my surgery. One gyn did the hysterectomy. The other, a urogyn who specializes in pelvic prolapse did the bladder suspension. He said I needed to keep my cervix because he was going to use it to help hold up my bladder...I never figured that one out, since my cervix was right at the vaginal opening from the prolapse. Anyway, he said it would help support things. He also removed some old scar tissue from an old episiotomy and tightened up my gaping opening. I go back for my 6 wk exam next week. Hopefully he will give me the ok for sex. Hubby is looking forward to trying things out!
