Caesarean stitches/TVH abdominal stitches?

I had a C-section (smile incision) almost 18 years ago, and then two natural births, but that's another story! My thought is this - how many interior stitches do you have with a C-section? I recovered fabulously from that, and just wonder how the stitch counts measure up. I have high hopes that I will recover well from my TVH as well. This time I won't have a fat baby to carry around while I recover!

Stitches

Sandy,
Are you having a TVH or TAH? If TVH, there are no abdominal stitches that I know of. I had TVH 5/18/01 and I only had internal stitches at cuff and also for rectal/bladder repair.

I'm not sure if I've totally confused you, but I hope not. The best advice I can give you on recovery is rest. I didn't do anything for the first two weeks and after that I gradually built back to normal. But that was over a 8 week period. I worked one day a week after two weeks out and now I'm back to work fulltime. I came back at 8 weeks post-op. I'm just getting back to feeling like doing something after I get off, but I still get tired easier too. Just remember to follow you MD's instructions and listen to your body. I didn't even talk to my MD about returning to work, because I knew I could come back whenever. We have a small company and don't have strict rules for leave. They were just happy for me to be here whenever I could be here.

Take care and best wishes on a peaceful recovery. Be warned that it'll be almost as hard as the wait on your surgery day getting here. But it's worth taking things very easy during your recovery.

Caesarean stitches/TVH abdominal stitches?

Hi Sandy

I had a TVH last December and my recovery was a lot longer than my recovery from child birth. That's because a baby is supposed to come out. A uterus is not.

I never had a C-Section, but I don't think that you have the same internal stitches as you do from a hyst. With a C-Section, they cut through the abdomen and take the baby, then stitch you back up. With a Hyst, they cut the cervix, remove the uterus and whatever else needs removing and stitch up the ligaments and close with a vaginal cuff. I've read somewhere that there were sometimes up to 100 stitches!!!

With a hyst, you have to a lot more than from child birth. And, unlike childbirth, you are still easily tired at 6 weeks.

Hope this helps.
