Too much ibuprofen?

How long were some of you on ibuprofen? Here's my story:

I'm 4.5 weeks post op. My doctor gave me oxycodone and ibuprofen (800 mg) when I left the hospital. I took the oxycodone off and on for two weeks, but I kept taking the ibuprofen at 800 mg 3x a day. At the end of two weeks, I was beginning to get out and about -- still no lifting, but moving around some each day. I teach, so during weeks 3-4, I began preparing my classroom in very small shifts. Wednesday and Thursday (4 weeks post op) I went for two half days of inservice, and I felt terrible on Thursday evening. Friday I traveled with my DD and DH as she moved into the dorms. I attended a couple of meetings, but didn't lift anything! Saturday I felt flu-like all day. I assumed I'd overdone it, but today I'm not feeling much better. My lousy times just haven't been lasting this long.

I've noticed that I get a little queasy now when I take the ibuprofen, but I'm still having the twinges and pains that are typical at this time post op, so I was assuming staying on regular doses of ibuprofen would help that. I had also heard that ibuprofen reduces inflammation and therefore lessens the chance of adhesions, but I've had virtually no discharge since week 2, so I'm assuming the internal stitches are fairly well healed. Now I'm wondering if the ibuprofen is partially responsible for making me tired and lethargic.

Anyone else experience something similar?

Too much ibuprofen?

I have not had any of those issues...but ibuprofen can be hard on your stomach. That could be part of it.
Try taking something that does not contain it, such as Tylenol. It might still help with discomfort, but not any swelling.

Too much ibuprofen?

Thanks, Sue1!

I had also considered taking acetaminophen instead of ibuprofen. I took heavy doses of ibuprofen once before for a strain and got pretty lethargic feeling after about a month. Two heads are better than one, so I think I'll try your suggestion. Thanks again!

Too much ibuprofen?

I have to take over the counter ibuprofen like advil. I take 4 every 8 hours still. I also have to eat something (usually yogurt) when I take it because my tummy is sensitive to ibuprofen. I still take it also because I still get those twinges and some discomfort especially when I go out and when I go to sleep.
