Just wondering

Ok, I have had my surgery and my treatments. I don't go back to the doctor until November. I didn't think to ask what will be done at that appointment. Do they usually do scans and all at the first 3 month check up? What have ya'll had done?

I think that it depends on the individual doctor, the stage of cancer etc. I basically only had an examination on my first three month visit. They could not do a pap smear because I had not been finished with internal radiation for long enough. The healing from that can possibly cause an abnormal pap smear. I did however have a pap smear at my second visit and it was normal

I did not have the same cancer as you, but I did have chemo, rads, and brachytherapy for vaginal cancer. This month I will be having my3rd follow up appt. I haven't had any paps as of yet. And it is my understanding as well, like Cag2007 said, it is too soon to have them due to the radiation treatments because they can give abnormal pap results. My exams have consisted of pelvic exams so far. I know I was told I will also begin seeing my regular gyn in January every 6 months and also cont. my 3 mo. follow ups with the gyno and rad oncologists. I will get scans, including bone scan, and mamo in January.

Thanks. I was just wondering if they started scans that soon or not. I know it will be here before I know it and just wanted an idea of how long I might be there. Have to drive 2 1/2 hours to the doctor. I am due for a mamogram now so I guess I will have to get with my doctor here and get that done here.
