Fighting deppression after TAH/BSO

Hello Ladies,
I have had a long journey, but the one thing I wanted some advice on is the deppression. I am not sad at all about losing my uterus or ovaries, they were causing me too many problems. However, just like the times I fought with post partum deppresion, I find myself extremely upset towards the late afternoon until sundown, I cry alot. I do not have any fits of rage or anger, just sadness, I feel almost unattached. I go tommorrow to have my staples removed and I am debating whether to ask for some anti deppressants or not. I rather not take them but if this is something that is going to last long, then I defitnetly need to. I should also mention that I will not be receiving hormone therapy for atleast six months. Is this temporary because of the sudden loss of estrogen? Or, because I am at home doing nothing, and maybe it will change once I can be up and around again? I am praying alot and reading the bible and that has helped tremendously. Thank you for your advice.

Fighting deppression after TAH/BSO

Hi Kelly!

I am sorry to hear you're feeling low. Unfortunately, depression after a hysterectomy is not uncommon. I hope the following article will prove helpful:

Depression After Hysterectomy

I experienced depression after my TAH/BSO and my family physician helped me by prescribing HRT and and after that didn't help, anti-depression medication. I still take HRT but was eventually able to discontinue the SSRI.

Be sure to let your medical provider know what you are experiencing. Help is available! You deserve to be the best "you" that you can be.

Many s and Best Wishes,
