Vaginal bleeding 7 years after surgical menopause

Hello and thanks for reading my post. I am not even sure I am on the right forum - but maybe someone can shed some light. Seven years ago I had my ovaries removed due to large cysts - I still have my uterus. I have never, since that surgery, had one drop of bleeding. I took hormones for the first 3 years and then stopped. I have been fine, no symptoms at all of any kind. Three days ago I woke in the middle of the night feeling very wet and sticky I went to the bathroom and there was blood on my underwear. At first I thought it might be rectal blood (I have a hemmoroid that acts up now and again), but to be honest, I knew that it was vaginal bleeding....I had my period monthly from the time I was 10 to the age of 42 - I know vaginal blood when I see it. I was totally freaked out.....next morning still bleeding but only moderately. I called my primary doctor and he told me that I should call a gyn right way - as it was not normal to bleed seven years later. I called and made appt for this coming Wednesday with a gyn. I am scared, nervous and confused. Why am I bleeding after all this time. I have no history of fibroids. I did have a D&C 10 years ago and they removed small polyps. I am not sure what to expect at the gyn visit. I understand that biopsy of the uterus is very very painful. I just do not know what to think.......my sister told me about this site seven years ago after my surgery and it helped me so much. Now severn years later I am back again for help. Thanks.

Hi Kan49,
I'm sure I have no answer for you and am sad to hear that you are suddenly going through whatever this may be. I've been reading some of the posts on this site and have read of post-op endometriosis. That is the first thing that popped into my head, although I have yet to research further myself to understand why one would have endometriosis post-op if everything is removed. Is a uterine biopsy something that tests for endo as well as other things?

try not to worry too much (i know its hard). it could be something as simple as the polyps have grown back and are now causing some bleeding. you've had them before so its definitely a possibility.

I am sorry you are having to go through this, but don't freak out too much about having the biopsy, I had one which was a spur of the moment thing I wasn't prepared for and it did hurt, but normally when you know you are having one you can take something prior like tylenol or advil to help with the pain. I didn't get a chance to take anything but it was ok, it is pretty quick and you may feel a little crampy for a while, it's sort of like a very aggresive pap test. Try not to fret too much.
