Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

Wow! I love this sight. I am currently having gallbladder problems and I have seen a GI specialist . I am having a scan next week to see what is going on. I already had an ultrasound it showed nothing. The specialist informed me that you gallbladder can go bad and you don't have to hjave stones. I am having severe pain. I wondered if it was related to my hysterectomy. I am not on any HRT. I take vitamins and supplements. I saw a report that some women who have a hysterectomy may need gallbladder surgery later. Any Ideas on this?

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

I know some members on the site have had their gallbladders out after their surgery. You might do a Search and see what threads come up on it.

I have heard that diet affects the gallbladder and that eliminating certain foods that are greasy and rich might prevent or help the problem.

I hope you don't have to have your gallbladder out and it is nothing serious.

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

I really wouldn't think it had anything to do with the hyst... It will crap out on ya when it's had it... My youngest daughter had her appendix nearly rupture when she was 22 and then her gall bladder "gave up the ghost" just a year later.

The family joke is - she doesn't have anymore expendable parts left, other than the "girl stuff" and she's only 25!

My husband donated 60% of his liver to his sister 2 years ago and they took the gall bladder out, just because its "a useless organ?" but he hasn't had any "issues" without it. I always figured God had some extra "puddy" and stuck it in there - just for the "heck of it"!!!

Smiles to you, the recovery is tender but if you got through a Hyst, you'll easily get through the gall bladder removal, especially if they do it orthoscopically... (3 tiny incisions...)

Hugs sweetie... you'll do fine!

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

I went through every test they could think of last fall, winter, and spring because they weren't sure if my pain was coming from the gallbladder or the appendix. All the tests came back fine yet I was in such discomfort that I had several ER visits. Eventually it was decided that I should have another surgery. So on April 15th they went in and took the appendix and looked at the gallbladder with the thought that if it was bad, it was coming out too. Well low and behold it was fine. The problem was I had several surgical adhesions from the hysterectomy. One was near the gallbladder, a couple on the exterior of the colon. He put mesh in and repaired them and all has been well since.

Good luck to you. I know the pain and the distress of not knowing what's happening next!!

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

I think the gallbladder just gives up in some people. Who know why it happens to women who have had hysterectomy before or after. We may never know why it happens this way.
I had the same problem as you did. I had an ultrasound and it show up with nothing wrong with it, but when they did the Die scan which last an 1 1/2 for the test to be done. Then when I got the results it showed that my gallbladder was only functioning at 25%. So I had it removed in April of this year and I have no more pain on my right. Good luck on your test!!

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

It's been about a year and a half since my TAH. Within a couple months I was having terrible pain and I couldn't eat without making it worse. Come to find out it was my gallbladder. Once removed I felt so much better!! The recovery was so much easier than the hysterectomy too! My surgeon told me that gallbladders are sometimes removed in a hysterectomy. It should have been on the release form for surgery. He was shocked that mine wasn't removed considering mine literally crystalized inside. Good luck! I hope you don't need the surgery.

Gallbladder problems related to hysterectomy?

Yeah they go hand and hand. I don't know why. But I had my gall bladder out before I had my hysterectomy done, because I was in such pain from the gall bladder issue. I didn't have any gall stones.
