How long does the swelly belly last.

I know that I have seen this answered somewhere but cannot find it.
I am going on 8 weeks post op. My belly is fine in the morning but by the time that I get home from work it looks like I am pregnant.
It is really uncomfortable. I know that this normal but I really am not liking it.

Thanks,

swelly belly

That's the same question I asked my doc! I'm only 12 days post but wasn't really prepared for this swelly belly. I read about out on here but I didn't expect to look pregnant again! My doctor said it could take 6 months or sometimes longer depending upon how I heal and how I adhere to her restrictions. She said (and I have found this true for me and sounds true for you too) that I will experience and notice more swelling after doing some activity and it should be a sign to me that I need to rest but that it will get better and better as I heal. As someone who has struggled with weight and finally just within the last year or so become happy with who I see in the mirror after a shower.....this is very difficult. However....I know why it is there....and so do those who love me and that's all that's important. There will be time enough in a few short weeks to start to tighten up those tummy muscles again without over doing it. And I keep telling myself that when this is all said and done and I am fully healed I won't have to organize what I wear depending upon what day of the month it is and IF I'll be bloated!

PS Just thought......today I should have started my period.......yippee....Ifeel great in comparison to those first few days of severe pain and excessive bleeding....does me good to remember....and I can't wait until I no longer think about what day of the month it is!

How long does the swelly belly last.

I'm 8 1/2 weeks post op. I did alot today...helped husband lay a hard wood floor & then I did a brisk 1 mile walk. I am very swelly!!
By morning it will be down. I notice it mostly when I've done ALOT (like today) I'll be glad when it's gone too.

A possible cause

I don't know how swelly your belly gets, but I did notice a definite connection between eating salt/sodium heavy foods and my belly swelling (not to pregnancy size) the next day. It is uncomfortable for me b/c I had a bikini incision and the swollen belly then rests on the incision. There is no "give." For some reason I have become addicted to salted sunflower seeds in the shell and can eat so many in a very short time. I tried to stop and found myself eating tortilla chips. No more of those, started on pretzels. Don't know why I need all this salt. I have to stop!!

Planning to use the Swelly Belly thing to my advantage!

Hi Gals,
I will be 9 weeks post op tomorrow. Still haven't seen my Dr for a follow up cause the idiot stays on vacation. Yes, I am a little bitter, and will be looking for a new Dr as soon as I am cleared from this one. Overall, I have done well. Like everyone else, I thought I was gonna die at week 2. When week 3 came I was a little better and today I can honestly say that I feel very good. It still hurts when I sneeze and I still have some areas of my belly that have no feeling. I have noticed when I overdo not only does my belly swell, but the top portion of my pubic area and around the incision becomes numb. It's usally gone by morning. I have been overweight all my life, but decided to start walking and eating better before surgery. I have lost a considerable amount of weight, but still have a lot to go. I have come to the complete and utter understanding that my belly will never be flat, so I plan to use the surgery to my advantage. I shared this once before - this is what I plan to say " This ole thing, yeah my Dr said I would have swelly belly for quite some time. I know, it has been 15 years - go figure!" Well, guess what - I don't care, at least I don't have the pain, and bleeding. I have passed two "no period" times since my surgery and I ain't missing it a bit! Not to mention no birth control and spontaneous sex! Yahoo!!!! Better than before!!!
Recently crowned princesses - take it slow. It takes time to heal and you only get one chance to heal properly!
Ya'll take care!

living with swelly belly

Hi, I just wanted to say that I agree with Sandi. As long as I have NO MORE pain & NO MORE periods, I can live with the swelly belly. I know it's not the greatest thing, but on the other hand it could be worse! I'm just glad to not have the problems that I had before my hyster. Tammy

Swelly belly

I'm 8 weeks post-op as of this past Friday the 10th of August. I took my 2 younger kids school shopping on the Wednesday & Thursday before, and I thought I could just casually walk around while they shopped, well, I was disappointed to find out I acquired swelly-belly on that Friday, August 10th, and lots of soreness just above the pubic bone. I went back to work full time on August 6th, having worked 3 weeks prior, at part-time. I left early on that Friday, August 10th, went home, and slept. I was so uncomfortable and exhausted. I pretty much rested the whole week-end. My lower back is also sore, I used a heating pad on that for some relief. It sure does take a long time to heal. I thought, LOL, I could do some simple shopping. Well, my body said otherwise, but I did rest and take care of myself.

No feeling near incision site

Does everyone have this gross condition? Nothing bothered me about the surgery. I looked at the incision and staples as soon as the doctor did, after surgery. I apply vitamin E oil, no problem. But when I was trying to remove the glue from the tape that had been on the incision, I reached a place where it was like I was made out of plastic and that really grossed me out!! Does the feeling ever come back?

How long does the swelly belly last.

My doc told me swelling lasted up to about 10 weeks. I think mine was longer. I'm 4 months and I think its down. I starting a reg exercise program now and its slowly going down. Before if I worked it hard, I could tell and it swelled. Everybody is going to be different
