General anesthesia fear

I have a supracervical hysterectomy scheduled for Monday and I'm freaking out about the anesthesia. I'm not fond of general anesthesia. I've been under general anesthesia several times before but it doesn't matter -- it still scares the crap out of me!!! I asked my doctor if there were other methods that could be used instead of general anesthesia and she said that she prefers it this way!!! WWWAAAAHHHHHH. I am not afraid of the procedure or the pain afterwards -- just the anesthesia!

Thanks for letting me rant!

Rant away! It is scary to let someone else put you to sleep and have no control over it.

But you will get through this. Have you let them know how anxious you are about this? Maybe they could give you something to calm your nerves.

Good luck for Monday, I hope everything goes well and you have a safe and happy recovery.

General anesthesia fear

the anesthesia is what always scares me too but when i wake up from it..i wonder why i was so scared. anesthesiologists are such gentle caring people and really make the experience so peaceful. speak to yours when you get to the hospital and you can get something in your i.v. for your nerves. you'll be just fine

General anesthesia fear

I felt exactly the same real fear of the surgery, only the anesthesia!

I was wheeled from the pre-op room into the surgery room, and chatting with the doctor and nurses...asked to move onto the table and remember the anesthesiologist ask me if I'd been giving any "funny stuff" yet. I said no and he said well you'll like this it's like having a couple of glasses of wine.

That was the last thing I remember...I zonked. My next conscious moment was in recovery talking to the doctor and her telling me how the surgery went. It was so much better than I imagined!

Take care and best wishes!

General anesthesia fear

I felt the same way about being put under, but I prayed and asked God to help me and He most certainly did. I am a nervous kind of person to begin with, and I don't like not being in control, but you got through it before and you'll get through it again. I'll say a prayer for you. God will be with you, be not afraid.
