Packing for the hospital - Underwear?

Hi:

Im trying to pack for the hospital and then realized I do not know if you have vaginal bleeding post op or not after having a TAH???

Do you have to wear underwear and pads at the hospital? Can you wear underwear if you have a catheder?

What kind of underwear should I pack if I am going to have a catheder and post op bleeding and an incision at my bikini line?

Packing for the hospital - Underwear?

Everyone is different, i had no bleeding post op and still do not. I did not need any underwear for the hospital only to come home. No undies required with cathedar, should be removed the day after surgery. I would aquire some larger than normal undies as i am still wearing them everyday due to swelly belly they are very comfy on the incision.

hi QAManager,

I bought the boy cut (briefs) cotton hanes, they are soft and loose on the tummy. I had some post op bleeding in the hospital and I also took my own thin panty liners, you won't like what the hospital has. My catheder was removed first thing the next morning, so I was able to put on my own undies and use my own pads. Small things make a difference in your comfort

At the hospital, imho the best thing is the mesh panties they give you. They will stretch enough to go over ANYTHING, including huge pads and catheters. And the best part is, they are disposable, so if you bleed on them it's no problem.

I was bleeding a lot AND had a catheter. I found that either the hospital's mesh panties or going commando (with a belt for the pads) worked best.

My hospital also provided the stretchy mesh panties. I had a TAH and only had some light spotting for a few hours after the surgery but wore a pad just in case. I went home in my cotton granny panties 2 sizes too big!. I still wear them at night 8 weeks post op- they are comfy. Ugly yes but comfy!

I had no mesh panties with my TAH, and no post-op spotting. Get the granny panties, best advice I got for the surgery!

I didn't have any bleeding to speak off. I wore the disposable panties the hospital had once the catheter was removed. I wore them at home for the first two weeks. they were more comfortable than my regular underwear, not really very attractive but at that point comfort was more important!

I had to have a catheter in twice this summer due to urinary retention issues and you can wear undies with a cath. If this happens to you, or you want to wear undies before your cath comes out, just move the tubing to one side or the other and then down your leg. It is doable.
