Pain lower right side of abdomen

Hi all, I managed to stumble upon this site while doing some research before I make a doctors appt. In April of 2005 I had to have emergency surgery for what I was told was appendicitis. Turns out it wasn't. I was told the next day by nurse that I had to have my right ovary complete with fallopian tube removed due to a 7cm cyst and ectopic pregnancy with torsion. As unpleasant as that sounds. I managed to get over the pain or so I thought. About a year ago I started to get cramps in my lower right side. I thought it'd go away. I went to my GP who pretty much told me they didn't know what it was and that it would go away. Well, here I am in 2008 and the pain hasn't gone away. (I just returned from an overseas assignment so I am now waiting to get appt with gyn scheduled.) The pain is always there, but it seems to get much worse when I get my period which is every couple of months birth control or not. This makes me double over or even at worse start to cry. I am curious if you could still get ORS with the fallopian tube removed as well, and if not, what is causing the pain?? Is it my 'phantom ovary'????

I also read that I had a 2cm cyst on my left ovary, but however, military doctors don't seem to think that's a problem. Granted, I have a child already, but I don't want to lose what little I have left. ( And another quick question??? would having the 'stuff' removed have any effect on libido??? I just have no interest anymore. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello there.
I thank you might have another cyst. You have all the signs I had. Doubling over in pain while on your period seems to be the worst time. Birth control never helped make my cyst go away are whatever they were ment to do! I had my left ovary and tube removed in 02 then my right 4 weeks ago. Where my left one was I did still have pain. Did you know that your ovary can grow back? If they did not take it all out it will grow back!

I know you dont want to lose what you have left but I have never felt better with it all gone! (i was done having kids also)

Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow morning what's going on. I've got to go to the clinic in the morning to get this looked at. I didn't know that an ovary can grow back? Even with the fallopian tube removed?????

It's called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome, or ORS. It is when a minute piece of ovarian tissue may be left behind, that tissue can grow and continue to have ovarian function.

We have some info about ORS in our Resources section.

Unhappy - Pain lower right side of abdomen Pain lower right side of abdomen

It's official. I am now at a loss. I have been to the doctors office twice to see about what is going on with the issues at hand. However, I have not been able to receive a straight forward answer on what's going on. Since my last post, the pain on my lower right side has not subsided. Infact, it has gotten worse. There is now a tender mass that is swollen on my lower right side. I have had x-rays, bloodwork, CT scan, Ultrasound, and Urinalysis done only to find that everything is 'normal' with the exception of the urinalysis which there turned out to be blood in the urine with no traces of bacteria (sorry for the TMI) The only time this even feels remotely better is when I start bleeding, and that only lasts for a day and the pain subsides, after the bleeding stops, the pain starts back up again with a vengeance. The pain I'm having now is dull/achy, and out of nowhere it will start feeling like a cramping pain. Also, to recap to where you don't have to read my previous post: I don't have an appendix, Ovary, or a Fallopian Tube on my right side. Any insight as to what this might be please let me know.

Re: Pain lower right side of abdomen

hey there, i had the exact same thing. pain on my right lower abdomen. CT, MRI, bloods revealed nothing. I had the hyst because my gynae said I should, it was probably in error because the pain is still there. my GP thinks that my bowel is twisting and untwisting and air bubbles are being trapped in that area. Im also so fed up with not getting the right answers, so I have resigned myself to live with it sadly.
