menopause symptoms- STILL HAVE OVARIES!

I am 5 days post op from a LAVH. I kept my ovaries and tubes but I have been having serious night sweats, swollen boobs that are also very sore, and wacky mood swings. I know that side effects from certain meds can cause some of this but I've taken these meds before and didn't feel this way. Is anyone else soaking the sheets with sweat at night and crying uncontrollably?

Hi,
It is common for your ovaries to shut down for a while after a hysterectomy. Their blood supply and 'neighborhood' has been disrupted and it can take a while for them to settle back in. This can take as long as 3 months, sorry to say.
I hope this news helps.

I agree - ovaries are "shell-shocked" without friends uterus and cervix and are trying to adjust to their new surroundings. I bought a Chillow and it was wonderful while my ovaries found their way back. I haven't needed it much lately, but last night DH cranked up the heater for our first freeze and nearly smoked me out of the house! The chillow kept me cool all night!

Give it some time. Until then, keep a glass with ice near your bed to cool you when those sweats wake you and throw off those covers! (I have been known to sneak the AC back on, too!) Good luck!

Hi bhamilton320....I am 8 days post op partial hyst with ovaries and I am experiencing the same symptoms horrible bouts of anxiety, hot flashes, headches, cold chills....anxiety is the worst..ativan is helping with that...my dr says it takes time for everything to settle down and if not... may have to go on some bioidentical hormones to regulate everything...take care and don't be afraid to push back on your doc if you don't feel right
