I've been experiencing irritation around the vulvar area from washing with soap. My GYN recommends Dove unscented, but it still irritates. She also says to use soap only every other day. Anyone else have success with a particular brand?

Why not try a clear, unscented glycerin bar. You can get these at some grocery stores, GNC, and other healthfood stores.

I use these people's soaps . They are all handmade. The goat's milk is extremely gentle and soothing.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, but I have not been on the computer since my last reply to you.

I use the store brand of baby soap. It works just as good as the name brand of baby soap and it is cheaper When I first started using baby soap I used Johnson and Johnson, but than I switched to the store brand because it was cheaper I buy my baby soap at Super K-Marts.

vulvar skin care tips

Some good vulvar self care tips are listed at:

See the About the Vulva page -

Cetaphil and its generic are good mild washes for the vulva, but really only water and one's hand are needed as the vagina is self-cleaning!

Trackgal, I have psoriasis, and I use unscented, WHITE Dove in the summer, and Cetaphil (or a store brand equivalent) in the winter. I use Cetaphil all year on my face. Neither one seem to make my skin worse. These products were recommended by my dermatologist. Winter is HELL for anyone with psoriasis or eczema! Cetaphil doesn't lather very much, but it is extremely gentle, and you get used to it after a while.
