showering, clothes, pain
Will I ever like showering again? You know how when you're sick, or have been sick and you take a shower and feel human again? I want that back! I have to force myself to shower. I have pain afterwards, and feel miserable. I do it...but I don't like it.
I bought jumbo sized sweat pants. They feel 'funny' on my tummy. Like they are on backwards. What's up with that? I was already fat, so my stomach looks like it did before I went in for the TAH. Although, it does feel 'heavier' at the bottom, where my incision is located. Be honest, will I ever wear jeans with a zipper again, or am I destined to wear elastic pants forever. Be honest. I gotta know.
I'm two weeks, and 2 days post-op. My incision is healing very nicely. I hurt inside though. After I stand for awhile, I feel like I need to hunch over like a granny. I want to walk around holding up my stomach. Is that normal?
I also have pains inside, almost like contractions. Basically, I hurt. I just plain hurt. Am I behaving normally? I'm no longer taking the 'good' meds. I'm on regular Ibuprofin, and I barely take that. Maybe I should take it more often? Would that help? I just feel like the pain should be gone by now.

I can relate. Taking a shower can feel like a workout and the only activity that you plan to attempt for an entire day. You are very early on in your recovery, so try not to be too discouraged. What you're feeling is completely expected. Maybe your pants feel odd because you still have some numbness around your incision. That numb feeling can last for months. I am almost 6 weeks and can wear jeans, but they don't fit normally yet, meaning, they are tight around the belly area. The feeling of needing to hunch over can still hit me at the end of the day when I have more food in my system, and that has been the hardest thing for me because like you, I can only be vertical for so long before I need to sit. Try to be patient with yourself. The fact that you are getting up here and there is exactly what you should be doing. As far as pain, everyone is so different in that concern that you should listen to what your body is telling you. No one else's experience can be a great gauge for that. Take care!!!

showering, clothes, pain
This is very normal. I'm at a little over 5 weeks for my TAH/BSO and I am finally feeling almost like the old me. Almost.
I found that up until about 4 weeks I felt like my stomach was going to fall to the floor (at the end of the day). It was the strangest feeling. I have one of those big elastic bands (that hook with Velcro) and I wore that as much as I could. It really helped with supporting my tummy.
I also did the "granny walk." When I started hunching over, I knew it was time to be sitting down. But it does get better. You won't believe the difference a couple of weeks will make.
At about week four, I could actually suck in my tummy a little. Up until that point, it didn't really move. I still have a little numbness, but that's about it.
I had weird sensations like I had a field hockey game going on inside my tummy! That finally left, but it was strange.
I really was fortunate in that I had little to no pain, but if I over did it, I would get this sharp pain on my left side. I'd rest and it would go away. Everyone is different, so when you feel pain, just take it easy. You're still at the very beginning of the recovery process from major surgery. Take care!

I'm 4 wks and 2days post op
I think the biggest thing to the recovery is Patience. Be very kind to yourself and although you don't feel "normal", try to accept your "new normal" for a little while.
Showering for me was a chore, often tired, dizzy or nauseated after. It gets better but I still find days when it's a chore. Just listen to your body.
Rest and Relax that's your job.

Yes, taking ibuprofen more often would help. Pain is always easier to manage if you take your meds before the pain kicks in; pain is easier to control than to eliminate.
Try taking ibuprofen first thing in the morning, maybe before you get out of bed. If possible, lie in bed for about half an hour so the ibuprofen can kick in. Take your next dose in 4-6 hours WHETHER OR NOT YOU NEED IT, and then again in 4-6 hours WHETHER OR NOT YOU NEED IT. Don't exceed the recommended dose, however. The trick is to stay ahead of the pain.
What you are feeling is very very normal. Like others have said, be patient with yourself. You deserve it!

showering, clothes, pain
I am six weeks post op and still find myself doing the "granny walk" if I've had a long day. I have a large vertical incision and find it very hard to wear "normal" clothes. I had a Christmas function last night and finally settled for a pair of pants with a zipper on the hip, I wanted to wear a skirt but the idea of wearing pantyhose was horrifying.
I am sure that this too shall pass.
