Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

Ok so I was out doing groceries on Friday in the snow. Lots of snow. I got home and my hip hurt. I took a quiet day yesterday and didn't go anywhere. This morning I walked to church as it was only 6 blocks away. Still lots of snow out there. I was fine on the way there, but on the way back at about 1/2 way, I started having a lot more pain. By the time I got home, I could barely walk. I took some pain meds and went to bed. I was feeling chilled and the pain was unbelievable. Took me a long time to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. I just got up from a 3 hour nap and I can feel the muscles spasm.

I gather that I was overprotecting my belly and using my hip and leg muscles to compensate. I know I haven't been doing a lot of excercise in the past 7 weeks, but this is unreal. All I can think of is when I worked ortho and I was getting these little old ladies out of bed the day after hip surgery. No wonder they they were telling me to go away.

This really hurts.

Anybody else?

Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

Does just hurt in your hip? does it seem like it's wrapping around to your lower back and down the glute and also wrapping around the front into your groin and leg?

Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

Yup, almost from my spine right around my hip and down through the groin to my quad. I'm walking around and stretching it out, but holy moly it hurts.

Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

It sounds like you pulled or strained your iliopsoas (hip flexer) muscle and believe me, it's painful and it can get worse fast and then start to affect other areas in your back. Do you see a Chiro or Mass. Ther.? Both would good for you, to help get back it's proper position and to loosen it up. I have been dealing with this for years!!!! Are you putting heat and/or ice on it? Is there a position that your more comfortable in? If you can take motrin/ibuprofen, that helps because of it's anti-inflammatory properties. Get back to me

Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

That hip has given me some issues over the years, especially after working a couple of 12 hour nights, but until Friday, it had behaved itself for a couple of years. I quit orthopedics because of the hip and some sciatica. There were some mornings that I couldn't walk at all. I took some naproxen and some plain tylenol earlier, along with some gravol (dramamine) just to help relax things a bit. I might have to hit the Tyl#3's soon. I'll just take one with some advil as that was my last Naproxen. If this doesn't ease up tomorrow I'll call my GP. Just when I was getting better too.

I know what you mean, just when you see the light at the end....WHAM! something knocks you down. Obviously you're a nurse and I would like to believe that I sound like I do know what I'm talking about. My GP gives me a script for flexiril., I take one at night when it's bothering me and within a few days I'm able to do stretches and go to the Chiro to get it all worked out. Good Luck!

This is just so painful. I'm swearing like a sailor and the cats are looking at me funny. Good thing I live alone! I was just taking some meds and thought I had run out of advil. I found some but will have to go out or find someone to go out tomorrow to reload. I was going through my medicine box (yes, it's a box) and all I could find was cold medications. Funny how when you have a cold you can't find anything helpful and when you don't they're all over the place.

I can still see the humour in all of this. Just yesterday I was thinking that I was finally getting my feet back under me, and today-WHAM!!!

I do know that this joke will get stale pretty quick though. I'm 42 and I feel 84 right at this moment. Put in appropriate curses right here!!!

Oh and thank you Jenn. I'm really glad that you are walking me through this. I was going to go look and see if I could find your story but you have almost 2,000 posts. You here all the time? I thought I was bad at 200.

But again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Keep me updated and feel free to vent to me anytime, I KNOW that pain! and it's not something you want right after major ab surgery! You need to get some muscle relaxers and although heat probably feels better you really should be icing it at this point. When it gets like yours I usually alternate 20 min on, 20 min off, with heat and ice. I feel your pain sister, I hope you can get some rest tonight.

Pulled a muscle in my hip. Ouch!!

Drugs baby, drugs! And a lovely sleeping pill called Zoplicone (actually 2 of them). Then there were my regular vitamins, vit d (not much sun aroung her at this time and I get quite down without it), hormones, iron, stool softners, 1 Tyl # 3, 1 Tyl #1, 2 advil (200mg) and maybe another gravol just before I go to bed. Tomorrow I will try a robaxacet and call my GP. Thank my shattered stars for a feather mattress on top of my bed. It has just enough fluff to keep my hip from crushing up against the matteress. I will get my heating pad out as it has been 3 days of discomfort. When I get cold from an icepack it takes forever to warm up again. Maybe a bath, if I don't get stuck in it.

Pain meds are starting to work. At this point I don't care what my liver thinks about filtering out all this garbage that I am shoving in my mouth. One day at a time and I am keeping track of the acetaminophen levels.

So another cup of tea and bed.
