Bleeding for 3 weeks

I have been reading this message board since a few weeks before my TAH/BSO on 5/9/00 for suspected adenomyosis and it has been extrememly helpful to see some of my same feelings, anxieties, experiences expressed by others going through this. I am now at the 3 week post-op point and can't find any message that relates to what I am going through.
I continue to have bright red vaginal bleeding (like a light period). At my one week visit, the Dr. said I had an infection and put me on an antibiotic for 5 days. At the 2 week point, I was having the same bleeding with continued pain and lack of stamina. The Dr. prescribed another antibiotic and put Silver nitrate in the vagina to slow the bleeding. Here I am now at 3 weeks, not able to drive or do much and still having light fresh bleeding. I called the Dr. today and he says that this is expected since the absorbable sutures are dissolving. My husband is very concerned that something wasn't stitched well and that I may have to go back in for surgery (the hospital stay was a nightmare, but that is a different story). If this is a normal occurrence, why doesn't anyone inform you of it ahead of time so that you don't freak out? How come I haven't seen this addressed in any of my reading? If anyone has experienced this, please let me know. Gotta go get some rest now as my energy is fading. Thanks for having this site, it is invaluable to those of us who are going through this very emotional process.

Bleeding for 3 weeks

Hi, My doctor told me before my hyst that I may bleed for up to 6 weeks after my hyst. I didn't but I have known some sisters who have. The best thing you can do for yourself is rest alot and keep you feet up. Hopefully this will end soon.

Bleeding for 3 weeks

Hi Sanbob, My Doc also told me that I may bleed lightly for up to six weeks. I bled just a little for three. Please do keep your feet up and take your antibiodics.
Also, I had a silver nitrate treatment..twice since surgery..thats not unusual at all. And, if you feel all is not well...why not make your Doc take another look. God Bless, Babs
