vaginal cuff 5 yrs. post th

Hello, all. I had a th almost 5 yrs ago. After my th, I needed to be cauterized 3 times in a row for scar tissue buildup. I now have deep pain above my bladder and have a very hard time during intercourse. I went to my gyno and he said I'm rejecting the permenant sutures he used on my vaginal cuff. The sutures now need to be removed via lap. My gyno said many of his patients had rejection problems with the type of sutures used. Does anyone know how painful removal will be and recovery time? He says 2 days recovery time, but this is my 4th lap. I'm very familiar with the "swelly belly". I also lift approx. 50 lbs. at work regularly. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Shelly

It really just depends on what needs to be done in there. The question is will you need to have a revision of the cuff?

With each of my laps prior to my hyst, I was always told no heavy lifting for 2 weeks and could resume intercourse after 4 weeks.

If you have to have a cuff revision, you could be facing a 6-8 week recovery.

Thanks so much for your reply. My doc didn't mention anything about a revision... just that I need the sutures removed. Maybe he won't know more until the lap? Gosh... A revision never even crossed my mind. I guess I'll know more after the end of the month. Thanks again so much for your reply. I thought I was done with all this "stuff". It's nice to know there's so much support here.

A revision is not that bad, just means a bit longer recovery and no sex. I also had a problem with stitches not disolving.

The reason why I mention a revision is because there could be a chance that your surgeon has to open the cuff to clean out some of the stitches. He probably won't know until the lap, but you should ask because if it is a possibility, you want to make sure your consents spell out a revision if needed.

I had a revision in November 2007and honestly, it was a relief. It was the only way to get some of the old stitches cleaned up. I was put on lifting restrictions and no sex.

My last surgery in November, I didn't have to have a revision (it was on my consents though) because my pain was due to a polyp. Now, I am not out of the woods...if that area where the polyp was removed remains tender then I suspect it will be opened up.

Good luck!
