Hysterectomy on December 19, 2008

Hi everyone. I had my uterus and cervic removed on 12/19/08. My first week was great with the pain medication (no pain, felt great), but by the beginning of the second week, I also could not have a (full) BM. After only being able to pass a little at a time and spending many hours in the bathroom, I finally went to the local ER and had an enima. It was the best choice I'd made! They first did an x-ray to determine if it was fecal matter and not another type of problem ,(which they did find it to be fecal matter) and said there would have been no way I would have been able to pass it. I had never, ever in my life been backed up like that! Sorry if I was a little graphic with that, but I've realized how I had taken my BM's for granted before. It has been 18 days since my. I am now feeling great. Mentally back to myself, but because my life is normally an extremely physical one, I am really taking it slow although my body says i over did it a little today.

Another quick question and I hope they dont throw me off the website for this one. Like I said, I overdid it today. I Went shopping and did some housework. When I went to the bathroom about a half hour ago, I got the reddest gush of blood. I feel fine and think I dont have to call my doctor. I have been getting that pinkish, creamy like blood about once a day(not evey day) before this. This scared me a little bit, but I have no pain or discomfort and I feel great. What do you think my friends?

Absolutley call your ob/gyn, this may be nothing but, I think it is. I'm not a MD, but I know that this not normal. I had several complications from my hyster(supra cervical , left my overies but they never worked again), took three years to get out of the pain, messed up my hormones, and my life in general. Please, do not take anything like this for granted, it is your life and, your body; I would not wish what I have been through on anybody! So, yes, please call, even if just for peace of mind.

HeiCa

I agree with ((Dengal62)) in that you should call your doctor since any new bleeding ~ especially a gush of blood after overdoing it ~ should be reported immediately.

A hysterectomy is major surgery with the initial and vital healing taking approximately 6 weeks ~ full recovery can then be anywhere from 3 months to a year. It will help you to read our <links> Post-Op Checkpoints and Doing Too Much, Too Soon.

Please try to rest as much as possible and call your doctor, too? Will you let us know what you find out? Sending all good wishes as you continue to heal!
