I feel great (3 weeks post-TAH)

I wanted to post, because I always searched for a thread like this before I went into surgery, but I could never find it.

I am three weeks post surgery~I had an abdominal hysterectomy for a 15 week uterus that contained an 800 gram fibroid. I also had my cervix removed, but kept my ovaries.

The first day, I could barely talk, The second day, walking was so much easier. The third day, I couldn't wait to go home.

Post surgery, I had the most pain at the "knot" areas of my incision~like a burning "red" pain. My doc said it was bc there wasn't much under the fascia (?), so i could feel those knots. At almost exactly 2.5 weeks, that pain went away./

At this point, I feel about 80% normal. I can contract my lower abs, which I could not do during week 2. My incision is still swollen. Doc says I will always have a "ledge"~~I told him to take it back. Bad word choice! But describes it exactly. I ice it every night, and during the first couple weeks, that ice pack felt great. I just shoved it down in there into my Spanx Power Panties, which were also great.

I can run 3-4 miles, orgasm normally, although we have not had sex yet~Doc said to wait 4 weeks so the stitches had time to heal. I have probably lost a few pounds, but nothing major YET

The only major changes I can notice, aside from that terrible period being gone!, is that I do not go to the bathroom as often, can do jumping jacks, my abdomen seems longer for some reason, and once i feel 100%, I expect the bloatedness I always had, to be gone.

One thing I did do prior to surgery, was to ask my doc to take pictures of my fibroid. FASCINATING!!! I looked like a baby's head coming out of my stomach.

All in all, knock on wood, I have no bad things to report. happy to chat with anyone.

Hi ktdahm!

Thanks for sharing -- it sounds like your recovery is going very well so far!

I hope that things continue in a positive manner. If you would like to lend your support to pre-op sisters, please head on over to the Pre-Op Message Board and see if there are any posts from the nervous Ladies-in-Waiting who would love to receive an encouraging word or two from a recovering hysterectomy patient like yourself.
