Stopping Drugs Before Surgery

Does anyone take methotrexate, anti inflammatories or other drugs? Were you asked to stop these before surgery?

Stopping Drugs Before Surgery

Hi there!

My doctor told me to stop ibuprofen and any other anti-inflammatories one full week before surgery because they affect bleeding (make you bleed more or inhibit clotting, I can't remember which).

So I would definitely suggest asking your doctor because he probably will want you to stop.

I agree with Rosa: it's very important that you inform your doctor of any and all meds that you take on a regualr basis. This also includes herbs and natural products.

Some of these products can cause serious complications, both during surgery and/or during your recovery. Continuing to take them could even result in your surgery being post-poned.

I take Vioxx for arthritis. My doc told me to stop one week before surgery. Anti inflammatories inhibit blood clotting and could lead to bleeding problems during surgery.
