Pelvic Pain, Pelvic Floor

I'm not even sure I am posting this in the correct place but here goes. I am 6 months post op (I had a laparoscopic total hysterectomy) and it seems as though every time I have sex, which has only been twice, I get pelvic and bowel/rectum pain. If the sex lasts too long, the pelvic pain gets really bad to the point where I am bedridden for about 3 days. I get really sore and can barely walk. It feels like a ruptured cysts. The last time I had sex, the pain wasn't too terribly bad after but my pelvis did feel rather sore. The doctors (There were 2 that did the surgery, so they both know my history) can't find anything wrong with my ovaries and everything appears to look good on vaginal ultrasound. They can't tell me why this is happening. I might add that they said they found a little endometriosis during surgery and removed what was there or something like that. One of my docs also mentioned my pelvic floor needing to be strengthened and he said that could be the reason for the pain after sex. I do have a little pelvic and lower back pain daily and they thought the little endometriosis they found could be causing the pain but didn't think it was likey since it was such a small amount. I'm wondering if going to physical therapy for my pelvic floor will help with this pain after sex. Could my pelvic floor be the problem? I never had these issues before surgery. Or could it be that my body needs to heal more?

And lastly, what the heck is the pelvic floor? I just heard about it last week.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I just don't know what to do at this point.

Pelvic Pain, Pelvic Floor

Talk to your dr. I dealt with pelvic pain for nearly two years, had several un-nesessary surgeries, had all of my reproductive organs removed (except one ovary) and just found out I have what is called Pelvic Floor Myalgia or Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. I too suffer from pelvic pain. It flares up before and after intercourse but hurts all the time. Apparently I have injured a pelvic muscle at some point and never have done anything to give it time to heal. It did not hurt after my hyster. but I was pretty much doing nothing strenous for six weeks after that. Now that I am exercising again and trying to get back to a normal life it is now irritated and because of my job it is not getting enough time to heal. I have been refered to a physical therapist and will start my first session with a therapist next friday.
