Granny Panties?

Do you really need these? Are reg. hip huggers okay, or too irritating? At this point, the plan is for laparoscopic (unless biopsy says otherwise). I rather just wear my normal jockey underwear!

I had a vaginal hysterectomy and didn't get new underwear. You may want to take a marker to your next doctor's appointment and ask the doctor to draw on you exactly where the incisions will be. Then go home and see if your underwear will press on any of these areas.

I didn't buy granny panties..but i did buy a one size bigger panty that had a higher waist band. My victoria's secret bikini would have had the waist right at my incision. Those size bigger ones even got snug with the swelly belly. I am 5 wks post op TAH today and starting to wear my normal pantys now.

Loved my 'granny panties' and am still wearing them 10 weeks post op!!! I'm trying to wean myself off them gradually but they are so comfy and sit above my incision nicely.

What if you have a tummy already?? I've had a tummy since I was 12 or 13, and didn't even have a period yet!! I don't know how it can get any bigger!!

I couldn't wear my regular underwear. I bought two sizes bigger and it was almost two small. Think of it this way: what's the worst thing that will happen if you buy the undies and don't need them? What's the worst thing that will happen if you need them and don't buy them?

After my 1st surgery, the incision healed fine, but I couldn't stand the feel of underwear elastic on it. It didn't hurt at all as the area was numb, but it just didn't feel right. Even years later, I couldn't stand low cut underwear because it touched the scar and sat right in the overhang of my post-op belly shelf. I can wear the VS hip huggers and bought a few in XL before my op. They do feel nicer with the xtra room.

Get the bigger undies at Ross or Marshall's so you only pay $1.50 or so. If you don't need them, no big loss.

As recommended by all the others, i'd buy a few bigger pairs just in case. The thing with surgery is you never 100% know. But even a laparoscopic procedure is going to require one incision just above the pubic bone where most hip huggers sit and that can be very irritating.

I am a TAH in Feb, and have already bought my "grannies". I learned after my first c-sec that I don't like anything hitting the incision area, and I find without the "grannies" that the low riders caught my staples!! Ouch!

I bought only three pairs of the grannies, as I do laundry often. On sale, of course, and one size bigger than usual! They lasted for as long as I needed them. After that, I bought the light control panties they sell on this site, in my regular size. I definitely have a tummy, and they were very comfortable.
