Ovaries and uterus removed months ago,now cervical cancer scares?
Had ovaries and uterus removed months ago, now cervical cancer scares?
I had a hysterectomy, only removing uterus and ovaries, 7 months ago. Now come to find out my cervix has severe precancerous cells, maybe even the real deal by now. anyway, can they remove my cervix if it is cancerous? anybody heard of such a thing or anybody who has done this? i read somewhere that it wasn't possible because of the way they remove the uterus. i'm freaking out, please somebody give me some info

that's terrible! (((Hugs)))
Yes, they can still remove the cervix. It's called a trachelectomy, and can be done either laparoscopically or vaginally. It's rare but there are cases of women who've had cervical cancer after a partial hysterectomy. Hopefully some of them will be along soon. I'm not sure what to tell you about the cancer angle, whether there are special protocols in that case. Trachelectomy can also be done because of other, non-cancerous cervical problems. There are several threads about it if you search.

I had a radical abdominal hysterectomy, due to cervical cancer. Before my surgery, I did research on the radical trachelectomy, where they only remove the cervix, the adjacent connective tissue and the lymph nodes. I wasn't a good candidate for this type surgery because I was over the age limit (at 40) and my gyno onc had never performed this type.

I see no reason why they couldn't take out the cervix now... even after you've already had your uterus removed. Perhaps they can do it vaginally... or... if you already have an abdominal scar, they could easily go back though that route.

Too bad that you have to deal with this now.... I feel for you, sister!
