night sweats 1 week post op

Sorry, wasnt sure where to post this as it seems to be applicble to two boards! Sorry admin, please delete as appropriate.

Just wondered, if anyone has any more on this. Just had a abdominal hysterectomy, 29th Jan, with ovaries intact.

I have never been disagnosed as such, because my periods and other problems were so bad pre op that everything else seemed insignificant so I didnt have it investigated, but Im pretty sure I have been perimenopausal for about a year beforehand. Hot fluhes and night sweats mainly..

I knows it is still early days after my op, but last night, for the first time in a week or two, my night sweats were back with avengance - I was soaked through and had to get up, wash down and get changed.

Anyone got any tips etc? I dont reaaly want to have to start HRT unless I have to as I take lots of other meds for different things already (Irritable bowel, acidic reflux) that I was hoping for more natural remidies, or medicines (UK specific if poss).

Just thought, I dont know if its relevant....this morning I had a strange 'turn'. I had the most terrible flush, temperature, and dizziness. Dont know how bad flushes can get? Or, is this to do with op, or begining of infection? I was quite scared, feeling faint and nausia etc. Lasted about half an hour.

I too have night sweats, both before and after the hyst. Haven't done anything about it yet. I'm 42.

Regarding your turn, I had a similar episode about 2 weeks out and had the same symptoms while on the toilet. I felt faint and was sweating profusely, wondering if I was going to vomit as I was having a bowel movement. Luckily it only happened once and my doctor's office explained to me it may have had to do with the valgas nerve and things moving along inside while healing is still going on. Not sure if it applies to you but thought it was similar enough to mention.

Have had similar whilst also on the loo, also during bowel movement! Dont know....seems to have lessened in the last day or two, as movements are becomming more frequent - still got some pain though...usually as it passes through the bowel, and particularly past the trauma site.

This 'turn' I had was worse than usual - had to lay down and the room felt as though it was spinning, VERY high temp etc.

Didnt know if related to op, or to being perimenopausal.

During my first 2 weeks post-op, I had similar, fiery, sweaty, nauseating flushes like I never had before. At my first post-op check-up, my doc put me on estrogen. One difference for me, I had my ovaries removed. Perhaps its happening to you because the ovaries are still getting back to normal from the surgery also. Call your doctor if this gets really troubling to you before your next check-up.

I had this too... it lasted for about 4weeks or so. I had my left ovary removed, kept right. Everything I read said this would calm down after awhile, and it finally did. I also had severe breast tenderness.. That also calmed down about the same time.

I have night sweats because of surgical menopause. Due to cancer causing the hyster I won't be on HRT. I did buy the Chillow from they hyster site and keep it under my pillow at night, I pull it out and lay on it when night sweats get bad and it has been helping me. It might be worth a try since you said you were having them before (probably going through natural menopause at the time).

You might try vitamin E(400-800mg.), black cohosh, evening primrose oil, and drink soy milk daily. I have found these take the edge off the the hot flashes and sweats. You will need to give it some time though, as they don't work as fast as hrt.

Hope you feel better soon.

I take Vitamin E 1,00 and Calcium/Magnesium in the am and pm. Also a cool/luke warm, quick shower just before seems to help a little. And last but not least, the CHILLOW! It works wonders for me! Good Luck and hope you a cool and dry evening!

Well, I was wondering the same thing. I don't think that I was perimenopausal prior to my TVH-with ovaries intact, on Jan. 29th. But, I have been experiencing a general heat in the middle of the night, insomnia, and irritability. I have been anemic for years, and was always the cold one in the room. Now, I am unusually comfortable and sometimes outright warm/hot at times. Is it possible that I am entering menopause?

Got blood tests this Friday Doc wants to make sure Im not having thyroid probs and to see whether I have indeed begun menopause / am perimenopausal. She said that it has been known for the ovaries to just 'give up' after hysertectomy.

I thought they were left in to prevent all this !!
