Hot Flashes and night sweats- Help

Hi
I had my hysterectomy in July 2008, my ovaries are still in. I am on Natural HRT, but it doesn't seem to be working for hot flashes and nights sweats. I have been on progesterone and testosterone, and the dr has now increase the progesterone dosage and added estrogen. However it has been a few days and it is getting worse rather than better. I feel shaky at night and I can't sleep.

The hot flashes were not this bad right after I had my surgery but I did have other symptoms such which have somewhat be relieved.

Has anyone else had these problem and if so is there any solution.

I would give it some more time, because when there is an adjustment with hormones, it takes the body time to adjust. I have seen it take as long as 4 weeks for everything to settle.

You might call the doctor and ask how long he wants you to wait. Hopefully, each week it will get better for you.

I found that a personal fan on my headboard shelf works wonders for nightsweats, pointed down on me. I just keep it on all night, and it sure helped me!

Hot Flashes and night sweats- Help

I have just had the results of a blood test to see whether my recent hysterectomy, ovaries in, had indeed 'shut down' my ovaries and cause early menopause - whether or not it was the 'cause' I am now confirmed as perimenopasual.

Got doctors tomorrow to discuss options. My main symptom, well one that has been affectng me terribly this last three or four weeks, is severe night sweats - up to every 20 minutes. Im shattered!!

Anyway, Im a little confused as I have been today reading through HRT treatments and I thought that you didnt need progesterone if you have had a hysterectomy?? Only Oestrogen needed; and you say you are taking combined??

Anyway, I am also looking to a drug called Tibolone (Livial). Apparently quite succesful but doesnt contain same hormones, so possibly safer?

I have every sympathy with your night sweats as I am gettig very little sleep!

Hi Jazz,

I take progesterone because I have other problems than just night sweats.

The progesterone really helps me with being relaxed and not agitated and reacting all the time. It also helps my memory and focus.

I would not do without it. They added estrogen as my ovaries seem to not be failing.
