On Thursday the 19th of February, we will begin discussing Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
Reading group questions will be posted on Thursday by Fritzi64. Please post your answers by Monday the 23rd.
This way we can discuss each others answers before the next round of questions are posted on Thursday the 26th.

Unlike the "live" events, the discussion will not be real time. Please respond to this thread if you would like to participate in the discussions.

Preparing for the book discussion

As you read (or reread) Twilight, you might be wondering what we'll be talking about in our book . Whether you just got back from the or are back to your routine of and , we hope you find this a good place to share your ideas about the book we've selected.

As *CharMay* says above, we'll have two rounds of questions.

The first round of questions will focus on what is actually in the book. Here are some things to think about:

• The title
• The story
• The main characters
--Characteristics
--Actions
--Feelings toward each other
The second round of questions will try to look at the book from a different perspective:

• Media coverage of the book (and movie)
• Potential impact of story (and the character of Edward) on young women
• How you can personally relate
• What you liked or disliked about the book

I'll be posting specific discussion questions by Thursday morning. I hope you enjoy your reading!

Discussion Questions

I hope you've enjoyed reading (or starting to read) Twilight.

Our first round of questions will focus on the story and the characters in the book. These questions are just a guide, so if there's something else you really want to say , please feel free to add it in!

Next week, our questions will ask us to step outside the story a bit to think about how this book has been treated in the media, how young girls might be influenced by the book, and the ways you can personally relate to various aspects of the book.

This Week's Questions:
  • What is the significance of the title: Twilight?
  • Can you identify with Bella's thoughts and actions throughout the book? Why or why not?
  • What do you think about why Edward is attracted to Bella?
  • Is Rosalie's dislike of Bella justified? Why or why not?
  • Do you think Carlisle did the right thing changing Edward into a vampire, or was it selfish? Does Edward show any signs of resentment toward Carlisle for what he did?
  • The author makes clear that vampires have to be very attractive to their prey, but do you think Edward is too perfect? Why or why not?

I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts about this very popular book.

Let the discussion begin!

Reading Club: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I've read a couple more books since I finished Twilight so I may not remember everything

I think that trhe title is because Edward and his family are at their best at twilight.

No, I never could identify with Bella. I think that I'm a lot more reserved than she. She seems to be a rather head strong young girl.

I think Edward was attracted to Bella because he couldn't read her mind and she was different and unexpected to him.

I think that Rosalie's dislike of Bella is because she doesn't trust her, maybe? Maybe a bit of jealousy too?

Did Carlisle do the right thing changing Edward into a vampire? Maybe. He would have died anyway and this way he had eternal "life" and Carlisle wouldn't have to be alone.

Edward's perfection did bother me a bit. But, he was besotted with Bella and that was the way to get and keep her attention.

I'm open to more suggestions

I just happen to notice this thread and I have to say, I think it's awesome. I love to read, but don't often because I never have anyone to talk about the books with. And it just so happens I started reading Twilight this past weekend. I'll pop back in here once I finish and join in the discussion, if that's ok with everyone.
