TVH/BSO & Swelly Belly Band

I am scheduled to have a TVH/BSO at the end of next month. Was wondering if it is a help to have the Swelly Belly Band with this surgery? I'm a somewhat small person 4/6 size but, do have a small belly pooch. Will the Swelly Belly Band help with that or with the movement of organs internally?

TVH/BSO & Swelly Belly Band

Hi!
I don't have a swelly belly band, but I DID get an abdominal binder from the nurse at the hospital, and I couldn't live without it. It's basically a large stretchy thing that velcros at the back. I highly, highly recommend one.

I think the swelly belly brand has a pouch for ice...I stuck baggies of ice cubes in between my pants and my binder (not on bare skin) and it held the ice there wonderfully.

You will more than likely be on the OB floor at your hospital, and they have those at hand for C Section and hysterectomy people.

yes, it helps me feel like my guts won't fall out! It's an absolute must....whether you do the swelly belly brand or the hospital cheapo.

Good luck with your surgery!!

I had a TVH and didn't have any kind of band at all--and I did just fine. I'm larger than you and had more than a pooch to deal with, and that might make a difference. You're probably better off to have it and not need it than the other way around.

TVH/BSO & Swelly Belly Band

My hospital didn't provide me with a binder or anything other than 2 extra cath bags (one bedside and one leg) and a couple of mesh panties. I suppose it depends on wether your doc orders that you should have one.... Ask him/her.

I bought both, the Swelly Belly Band and the (smallest) AB binder, from the Hystersister store.

I love the Swelly Belly Band. I don't use it wet, directly on my skin; that's way too cold for my sensitive skin. I wrap the wet part in cling wrap and wear it over my undies or PJ bottoms. Nice and cool - reliving pain and lessens some of the swelling.

I wear size 8/10/12 or M/L bottoms and the (smallest) AB binder was still too big for me. I hated the extra material and it just didn't fit properly. I ended buying a better fitting Loving Support Postpartum Support Binder, from a local medical supply store. I can wear that one, when out and about.... but it's a bit uncomfy when sitting in my recliner.
