Can a endometrial biopsy detect ovarian cysts, cervical cancer besides uterus cancer?

I'm getting a Endometrial biopsy next week to check my uterus. Can this procedure find out other things? such as - cysts on my ovaries, and problems with the cervix? My doctor found fibroids in my uterus. I'm 39 and i am in a lot of pain from severe bleeding during my period. Also, what is the main reason for an endometrial biopsy? I had a vaginal probe ultrasound that found the uterine fibroids. I s this type of ultrasound accurate in finding fibroids? I'm sorry for all the questions, i'm just scared & curious! Thanks so much for your help! xoxo

Can a endometrial biopsy detect ovarian cysts, cervical cancer besides uterus cancer?

Hi, pinkrocks

I had an endometrial biopsy a couple years ago after an ultrasound found a small fibroid. My understanding was that the purpose was just to rule things out before determining the best way to proceed in dealing with the fibroid. I think I also had some cervical tissue taken at that time, but I'm pretty sure this biopsy doesn't relate to the ovaries at all.

As for the accuracy of the ultrasound, I've always had doctors point out that the ultrasound is a tool but not an accurate one. Ultrasounds can miss things, and they can mismeasure them--but if they find something there, then there's something there. My first ultrasound showed a "something" that they thought was a fibroid. It turned out to be an endometrial polyp instead--although I did have a fibroid elsewhere that the ultrasound had missed.

I've been scared every time I've had a biopsy. I'm glad you found us, though, because many of us here have been through the experience. I hope your biopsy goes well and that all is well.
