Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

I am home.

Just a quick post today of everything. I think my experience will be much greater then most everyone else because along with the hysterectomy (cervix removed, kept ovaries) I had the sacral colpopexy procedure to fix my pelvix prolapse, and a TVT sling.

It was done via Di Vinci Robotic. I was scheduled for 7:30 AM, and arrived at the hospital at 5:30. Because my procedure was expected to take about 6 hours... another patient who was having a quick procedure done went ahead. Around 9:40 AM, I kissed my DH good bye.... and remember nothing until I arrived in my room somewhere around 9:00 PM. I was on a ventaltor, and didn't have much of a voice. I really don't recall much of Monday night or Tuesday at all - but I do know I have always had issues with vomiting because of the anesthesia... Thank God, this time they addressed it serveral ways and I did not get sick!

24 hours they got me out of bed. I am sore and BLOATED. I haven't really been able to eat anything yet - though I am now hungry... my stomach is just cramping as soon as I swallow.

Dr. said everything went great... I was discharged late this AM and so happy to be home. I have a catheter in and will have to go back to see if I can pee on my own next week.

I am sore, tired, swollen.. but glad it is over and glad to be home.

Hope everyone else is able to check in soon. Glad I didn't bring the computer... would have never used it!

I'm HOME!!

Had my LAVH on Tues. 3/24. Was hoping to just have uterus and cervix removed. Dr. decided the left ovary needed to come out also. FINALLY something was found to be the cause of pain. There was a cyst that wasn't showing on any type of xray/utlrasound. So glad it wasn't "all in my head". Hoping my YEARS of undiagnosed pain will be over.

I came home yesterday around 530pm. Had to wait for the cath to come out. Was able to take only minimal pain killers!! Walked around the hospital 3 times before release Finally got to take a shower today. Feeling better than I expected to feel. Have been up mulitple times walking around my apartment then napping, then walking more.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

I had a partial hysterecomy (SAH) on March 23. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. and I had to wait for one person before me. That was a little difficult, but they let my DH sit with me until they came to get me (40 min). I went in at about 9:00 a.m. and the next thing I remember is waking up, looking at the clock around 12 noon. On the way to my room they took me by the waiting room and my DH and sister were there waiting for me. My DH followed me to my room. After arguing in pain with the nurses about my pain (they kept saying my pain was from the surgery) and I kept saying I needed something for the constant pain, finally my sister took over. Once she was done there were 4 to 5 nurses in the room trying to give me medication every hour through the IV machine. After that I was okay. The doctor said everything went fine. They removed the top of my uterus and the fibroid tumor (the size of a cantelope) from my uterus. Everything else (ovaries, fallopian tubes) was left !

Walking around was difficult at first, but it really helped with the gas. I came home Wednesday and slept like a baby. My DH and family have been very supportive. It is nice to be pampered. I just have to work on being still and letting my body heal!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

Went to the hospital for a TAH BSO on Tuesday March 24. While I was in pre-op room, my mother had a seizure so they wheeled her off to the ER, and my husband went with her. Luckily, one of my best friends was also there and she stayed with me. And, luckily my husband showed up before the OR taxi took me to the castle.

I awoke in the OR, and it scared me until I realized the operation was over. So I was awake for the transfer from the OR table to the gerny. My pain level stayed at a 10 in recovery and the trip to my room was rough. After 2 1/2 hours they called the doctor to get an order to give me a shot of morphine. After they did that, my pain has now been controlled. The second day I walked and was able to eat once they got the morphone pump removed. The floor I was on is a Women's Health floor which means maternity was on the floor too. When I was walking yesterday afternoon, an older man who was getting on an elevator, located near the nursery, looked at me and said congratulations. I just looked back and said, "Uh, thank you." I told the nurse, and we both laughed. Actually, it is a congratulations because now I'm on the road to recovery.

Today, I took a shower after the doctor told me it was okay, and now I'm at home! It's so nice to be back home. And, although, I do feel some discomfort, I feel much better than I have in years.

Thanks again for all the support. I wish everyone a speedy recovery!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

Hello~

Well I'm back. I had my surgery Monday 3/23 Vaginal Hysterectomy. The vagina was 2x normal size and full of fibroid tumors.

The surgery went fine. But I developed fluid on my lungs this required me to stay a little longer. I have a history of blood clots so they needed to be sure. Was released Weds 3/25 in the afternoon.

Since I've been home I can't even tell I've had surgery. Gas discomfort and feeling a little tired that's all. Went to my GP today and I'm off the oxygen. I already lightly cleaned the kitchen and made dinner tonight! Neat huh?

Would I do it again? You bet.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

HI all,

Had my TVH on Monday March 23 and was home Wednesday night.

My surgery was supposed to last approx 90 min - ended up as 3 hours - I had a fallopian tube that decided it wanted to see the outside world as well and gave the Dr.s some bleeding grief.

I had opted for spinal anesthesia and woke up half way through the surgery. I asked my 'groinacologyst' how it was going and he said he would talk to me after the surgery was over.... apparently that's when they switched me over to general anesthesia.

A morphine pump helped me through the initial pain stages but was taken off that, due to some odd side effects, and am now on Tylenol and Naproxen - and it's all good.

DH was and continues to be awesome and very supportative.

Today I am up and about and constantly reminding myself to relax and take it easy. I feel better now than I have for months. I am so glad I had this done.

The worst part of all - truly - was the waiting for the surgery day.

Best wishes to all.

Today, I am still sore and VERY BLOATED! I still am not passing much gas, and having the Foley catheter is not fun. My tummy feels like someone used it as a punching bag, but otherwise.. I feel okay. Better then I would have expected.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 23-Mar 29,2009

I had my surgery on 3/24/09.
Everthing went well and as expected up until the actual surgery itself. I had a TVH due to multiple intramural fibriod tumors. I kept my ovaries.
During the surgery they found that scar tissue from my old c-section had aheared to my bladder. When they were removing it they tore a small hole in my bladder. A urologist had to be called in to repair this.
I've done pretty well since then and have have no complications other than I am a little sore. My only complaint is that I am home with a catheter for a week while my bladder is healing.
I'm looking forward to next week when I can get back out and do some walking in the evenings.
