Granny panties for TVH?

Good grief, I'm posting every 5 minutes - but my mind is just racing!

Do I need granny panties for a TVH? Is there still a lot of ab swelling when it's not a TAH?

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

Thanks, sounds like it would be a good idea to have them on hand just in case.

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

I have had just as much swelly belly this time with LAVH as I did when I had abdominal fibroid surgery. Before surgery, I went out and bought a much larger size of cheaper by the dozen granny panties from a well know discount dept. store. It's been 17 days today since surgery and I am STILL wearing them because the swelling hasn't gone down yet. I look forward to the day when I can toss these ole granny panties away for good---knowing they served their comfortable purpose well!

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

I didn't need any special clothes or undergarments post op. I wore the same jeans out of the hospital that I wore in. No swelly belly at all!

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I am having LAVH and didn't think I would need the granny panties. Now I think I will get some just in case. Better to be safe (and comfy) than sorry.

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

I did buy granny panties and they were fine for the first week before the stitiches started to dissolve. Then I needed a pad. Sitting on a pad was uncomfortable so I went out and bought the thing they sell that is closest to the mesh panties they give you in the hospital (Depends). They were very useful for the weeks that the stitches are dissolving and if you can get past wearing them they are really, really comfortable and don't press into you and make you sore like the pads do. Good luck to you.

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

No, I didn't need them... and if I had them, they would have bothered me. I was able to wear my low hip cut underwear just fine. If you were to have an abdominal hysterectomy, I feel you'd need them, otherwise no.

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

Hi packer26 - I know exactly what you mean with a racing mind! I can't seem to focus on one particular thing for more that a few minutes & am getting very fidgety.

I'm also having a TVH & was wondering about the granny undies, after reading through some other threads I think I will buy a couple of pairs to have just in case. Better to be safe than sorry

Re: Granny panties for TVH?

I wear hi-cut panties, somewhere in between bikini and granny panties. They hit just below the belly button. I think those are a good compromise. Those huge briefs would drive me insane I'm pretty sure.. LOL

I'm having my TVH/A&P repair on 6/29/09 so it will be nice and warm. I'm thinking of buying a few shorter length sleeveless summer dresses for my convalescence period. That way I won't have to wear anything over top of my underwear. I just have no idea what to expect as far as pain and discomfort. It's probably a pretty subjective thing... Same as labor pains... As an OB nurse years ago I saw it all, from barely a grimace with complete composure to crawling out of the bed on hands/knees screaming hysterically... I myself stayed put on the bed, but made up for it with a lot of moaning and hollering and noise~ Wonder how that translates to waking up in the recovery room after my surgery??? Guess we'll find out 6/29.. LOL
