Irritable bowel and bowel prep for surgery
I'm scheduled May 7th for Davinci BSO, possible abdominal hysterectomy. I have diarrhea predominant IBS and am scared about taking the magnesium citrate bowel prep. I've been searching the net and have seen where people say they had rectal spasms for weeks after taking. If anyone has IBS with diarhhea and has experience with the bowel prep, please let me know. I've had rectal spasms before that lasted a full month and I'm terrified!

you should call your gastro dr and talk to him about it. he might want to call your gyn about the bowel prep or to change it..or he might tell you its fine to do.

I agree, I think that you should call your dr about it. Maybe he/she will have some helpful advice or even change what you need to do.
Best wishes.

Re: Irritable bowel and bowel prep for surgery
I have IBS symptoms like you do. I would call and explain the situation. I was told to take stool softeners after surgery and after taking them a couple of times my DH told me I was crazy and to try to see if I could do without them. I did switch to grape juice which has a mild laxative effect and much more "user friendly" (note to others...always check with your doctor before changing instructions).
