Re: Question about adenomyosis
My Dr. suspected Adenomyosis. It did not show up on the abd. or vag. ultrasound. I had LSH for my painful fibroid. The pathology on my uterus came back adenomyosis.
LSH kept ovaries

Re: Question about adenomyosis
Nothing showed up on my transvag ultrasound. I was in severe constant pain and then had to beg for a laparoscopy. I then had a hysterectomy BSO. My pathology showed severe adenomyosis and numerous other probems including endometriosis. Adeno is insidious. I had never heard about it but it caused pain like labor pains, heavy bleeding and clotting, lower back pain, etc. My doctor was certain I had nothing wrong with me before my hysterectomy. I don't know why they can't detect adeno earlier.

Re: Question about adenomyosis
Even though my adeno. showed up on U/S, two docs. said that it was my depression causing the pain. Doc. number 3 couldn't believe it.
Get another opinion, then another, till you feel confident in your diagnosis.

Re: Question about adenomyosis
adeno is only 100% diagnosed during pathology after the uterus is removed. as far as i know, there is no test beforehand that can tell you that you definitely have it. everything else has to be ruled out as a cause of the problems and usually you have a hysterectomy for suspected adeno. from what ive read here, when its suspected, it seems most people do have it, but there have been a few who didnt.

Re: Question about adenomyosis
I have been told that my uterus looks like it has adenomyosis.. now is that something that goes away once the uterus is gone?

Re: Question about adenomyosis
Hi doulaamber
Adenomyosis doesn't necessarily show up on an ultrasound. When I was tested for it a couple years ago, I had a pelvic MRI that I was told would be more likely to show it if it was there (it wasn't).
I would ask for additional tests to help determine what is best.

Re: Question about adenomyosis
My adeno now shows up clearly on an ultrasound. They can also do it via MRI. Possibly, depending on how extensive it is.

Re: Question about adenomyosis
My dr suspected it but nothing was confirmed until the path report came back after surgery.
