Hysterectomy scheduled for adenomyosis

I also have adenemyosis and some of the most annoying symptoms apart from the pain of the cramps and bleeding are the bladder spasms and bowel spasms with diarrhea. I've been told it has something to do with an over release of prostaglandins which trigger uterine contractions and some other chemicals that control smooth muscles that adenomyosis causes an overproduction of. I'm scheduled for a TVH on 7/7 with ant repair and urethral sling. So we'll see if removing the enlarged uterus helps these symptoms. I hope so I've spent far too much time in the bathroom the last few years!

Re: Will have LAVH for Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis cannot be diagnosed with ultrasound or other imaging. The only way it's diagnosed is in the path lab, and since it generally isn't everywhere in the uterus, even samples after hysterectomy don't always confirm the diagnosis. It is one of elimination. If you have bowel issues, get them checked out and treated before you undergo major surgery. However, if everything else checks out, then go for it. You may never get a "we actually saw that it was adenomyosis," but if they take out your uterus and your life suddenly becomes not just livable but better than you remember it being in recent years, you'll know you made the right decision. I know I did.

Re: Will have LAVH for Adenomyosis

I have had my poor bowels investigated. Colonoscopy was clean, food allergies ruled out, I did have some adhesions removed from my rectum, sigmoid colon and left ovary and fallopian tube recently and that did help some of the pain associated with bowel movements. The spams and diarrhea continue to be during my period or just after so my dr has pretty strong suspicion it is adeno related. That was one of the many reasons not the only I have chosen surgery. I appreciate hearing the experiences of others because as you all have said there is not much info out there! Best of health to you all and thank you for sharing.
