back to work

I have a job that requires heavy lifting. How long should I reasonably expect to be off work. My surgery has not yet been scheduled, but I know I have to have hysterectomy with repair for rectocele and cystocele at least. Some websites say 6 weeks off and others say 3 months for heavy lifting.

Re: back to work

I'm right there with ya. I lift heavy things everyday. Not sure how long to be w/o lifting the things i do. Looks like it could be months. I was told no lifting for 6 weeks. Then I have heard to startback slowly. Many people have said it took many months to feel 100% again. So i'm not sure either. With your repairs i'm assuming it could be awhile.
It also depens on how you heal.

Re: back to work

I used to heal very well, but there was a period between April 2006 and November 2008 that I had 3 surgeries and now even a cut on my finger takes quite a while to heal. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Re: back to work

I had a TVH and no repairs and I wasn't allowed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 6 weeks and I don't have any lifetime lifting restrictions. At my 6 week appointment, I was released to 'ease' back into my normal routine.

I have read some members posts that say they have lifting limits for the rest of their lives because of the repairs that were done. You should ask your doctor when you might expect to be released to return to work and any lifting restrictions you may have.

Re: back to work

Thanks for the information. I guess I will have to see what happens. There are not a lot of jobs in our area, but I keep looking for one that has no lifting.
