Got my surgery date yesterday, gulp!!!

I'll be having my surgery on June 19th, I'm scared half to death. Not of the surgery or the pain, but of all the unknowns. If I were just 15 years older, this would be cake for me! Why am I so nervous!

Re: Got my surgery date yesterday, gulp!!!

I had my surgery on June 1 (tvh and bladder sling) and almost drove myself crazy worrying about all of the "unknowns." Trust me when I say this, the waiting is by far the worst part. Now, I am not too sure I believed all of the hystersisters who already had their surgeries, but now I know. They all said the waiting was worse than the surgery and they were 100% right. My recovery has been great with no problems whatsoever. I have my moments of feeling sorry for myself because I can't lift, reach and bend but I try to remember that this is just temporary. Almost everything we worry about never happens so try to relax and stay busy and you will be fine. There are some wonderful ideas on this site about recovery, especially about the problems most of us encounter after surgery like gas and bowel movements. Gax-X really helped me and I have been walking since 2 days after my surgery. Also drinking lots of water and eating a high fiber diet and have not had one problem with the bowels. Try alternating some activity with walking and the gas will be less. These are just little things I have learned. Also stay away from red meat and food that is hard to digest and eat more protein like fish and chicken. Hang in there and I promise you will be ok Will be thinking about you and I know you will have a successful surgery

Re: Got my surgery date yesterday, gulp!!!

My surgery is scheduled for August 13, 2009. Like you, I'm scared of the unknown. I have been diagnosed with adenomyosis and I have fibroids so a hysterectomy is pretty much my only option at this point. I'm hoping to have an LSH, but the doctor says that it may turn into a SAH. I keep thinking about all the "what ifs", so you are not alone in your worries and fears. I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago and it has been most helpful at putting me at ease (slightly at ease). I've found a lot of useful information here and I have already started preparing for my trip to the castle! Good luck, and I'll keep you in my prayers. You've got a friend here if you need to talk or vent or... whatever.

Re: Got my surgery date yesterday, gulp!!!

I've got a ways to go (July 20th) but I know I'll be a mess as it gets closer. I actually wish they'd call and move the date up but it'd probably send me into panic mode. This site is such a blessing and offers so much good advice and support that I know I'll be visiting daily..or hourly when it gets closer.

My friend keeps asking me what I'm nervous about and it's impossible to really explain it. If it were just one thing, I could probably sort it all out and forget it but it's hard to describe. At least we know we're not alone though and that helps me a lot.

I couldn't have waited that long. I requested it be done ASAP. I told my GYN I didn't need a bowel prep, that my nerves have been doing the job for me, LOL. I wish I could get it done tomorrow and be done with it. I know the waiting is the worst part. I really just wih the GYN could say, sex will still be awesome, you'll still have orgasims, and your ovaries will work for thenext 20 years until you would go into menopause naturally. It would all be so much easier. Then I'd say bring it on, cut it out and give me the pain meds, let's roll!!

Re: Got my surgery date yesterday, gulp!!!

Hey Fep - I see you're in Tampa. I was there visiting a friend in May. It was actually while on that trip that I noticed this lump or more like a mass in my lower abdomen. I tried not to worry but as soon as I got back, I called my Gyn. I thought they'd schedule me sooner but they said this was the 1st date avail. It has one advantage in that I think the mass is growing so I'm having more cramping, lower back pain and running to the bathroom more. Any thoughts about the surgery being unnecessary are vanishing
