length of surgery?

I'm scheduled for a vaginal hysterectomy and I wonder how long I'll be in surgery.

Re: length of surgery?

I've read anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. A lot of the time for any surgery is the getting ready part, hooking you all up to monitors, shaving, cleansing, draping, positioning, etc.

Re: length of surgery?

Hi foogarahik, and

I was told a vaginal hysterectomy typically takes about 90 minutes, and that's pretty much what it turned out to be. I actually spent more time in the recovery room than in the operating room.

I'm glad you found your way to HysterSisters!

Re: length of surgery?

Thank you for the information...I couldn't find that anywhere, and I haven't asked my doctor as of yet.

I, too, am glad that I found this site...it is wonderful!

Re: length of surgery?

I am scheduled for a VH and a bladder sling. They told me an hour. Which I was surprised.

Re: length of surgery?

I'm told I was in OR for 2 hours and recovery for 1 hour.
That is close to the expected amount of time; of course, for me it felt like one second.
You will be fine with the vaginal hysterectomy. When are you scheduled?

Re: length of surgery?

Honestly, it depends on what you're having done. I had a TAH/BSO because of fibroids and mine took three hours, simply because of the size and number of fibroids - they were massive...
