Severe pain and bleeding during and after intercourse, with bleeding

This is a little personal for me but here it goes. I would just like to know that I am not the only person to experience such problems. I had a full hysterectomy June 11, 2008. My libido is non-existent (poor hubs). Anyways, Sunday we had intercourse for the first time in quite a while. Well needless to say as you can see from my subject title it was VERY painful. I was shocked when I went to the restroom and found blood, I am still having to wear a panty liner. I would call my normal ob that did the procedure but I am not so sure he and I are seeing eye to eye on things as we once did.

I have made an appointment to see a new ob due to the fact that I still am having other problems and he acts like they are no big deal. Well guess what buddy they are. I constantly have blood and/or lukecites (sp?) in my urine. Antibiotics don't work. I have been to a urologist and had an ivp and had him scrape by bladder. the back pain seems to flair up about every 3 to 4 weeks. My ob that i have gone to for years doesn't seem to think that that has anything to do with anything. Well I disagree it is like it happens when I would normally be having a cycle, which I no longer have. I also had a ct scan done again recently done and they found a cyst on what would be my right ovary if I had one. Yet again he said no big deal. So I am going to a new gyn that has come highly recommended. Cross your fingers for me.

Anyways with all that said has anyone else had any such problems with with any of this. I feel like I am hitting brick walls. Either that or going crazy (that one is debatable) I am sick of migraines that I didn't used to have, pain during and after intercourse (not to mention the blood NOT GOOD!), back pain, and all the other crap. I want my life back I am too young for this. I thought that when I had my surgery that it would get rid of the endometriosis and I would feel better. So please any help on any of this would be very much appreciated. I have never poured my heart not to mention very personal stuff out to strangers but I am desperate. I am fixing to be 35 and some days I feel like I can't go on like this it has got to stop! Please offer any insight you may have on any of these areas.

Thanks for letting me get ll of this out to is helped to lay it all on the table so to speak.

Re: Severe pain and bleeding during and after intercourse, with bleeding

I am so sorry that you are dealing so much pain and bleeding. I hope your appointment with the new doctor goes well.

Because you have endometriosis, it could be contributing to your pain and even causing at least some of the bleeding. A hysterectomy does not cure endometriosis so if any of it was missed, it could be creating havoc for you now.

You could also be having some issues with your vaginal cuff. That can create pain with intercourse and depending on the problem, some bleeding. Are you experiencing any vagina dryness? That could be a contributing factor as well.

Another thing that crossed my mind is interstitial cystitis (IC). IC is being found in many of us who have endometriosis. IC is a painful condition of the bladder that can cause pain with intercourse, has similar symptoms to a UTI but there is no actual infection so antibiotics don't work, and symptoms can worsen during your cycle. Bleeding is not necessarily associated with IC but it was one of my symptoms apparently from the bursting blood vessels in the bladder.

As you have symptoms that seem to go along with what your cycle was previously and a cyst could be where your right ovary used to be, you might want to learn a bit about ovarian remnant syndrome (ORS). If a tiny piece of an ovary is missed, it can not only grow, but it can also produce hormones and even allow for cysts.

Because you have endo, the cyst could also be an endometrioma.

While you wait for your upcoming appointment, make a list of all of your symptoms and what you have tired successfully and unsuccessfully to treat them. Be as detailed and specific as you can. Also note any and all tests you have had and get the results of those tests. Also list any and all medications you are using. Take all of this information with you to your appointment.

I wish you all the best and hope you get some answers soon!

Re: Severe pain and bleeding during and after intercourse, with bleeding

Thank you so much for replying. I went to see the new gyn yesterday and it was great. Well it was painful but the news and information was great. He agreed with me in the fact that I had been thinking all along, just because they had removed my ovaries and everything doesn't mean that it is all gone. In fact when he did the ultrasound to check on the cyst it had grown from 2.6 in size to 3.2. That is just in a 2 week span of time. He also saw on the ultrasound what looked like either endo. tissue, or what could be part of my right ovary that was left.

He was shocked to find that my other dr had rushed to put me on hormones so quickly after my surgery. He said that that has made it where the endo. has just fed off the estrogen. He has taken me off of all estrogen and wants to see me in a month to monitor the cyst as well as the area that he saw. He seemed very knowledgeable. He even agreed with me when I asked if it was possible for the endo. tissue to attach itself to my kidneys. My other dr. always said that he did the surgery and I am taking hormones so the endo is gone.

I left there feeling hopeful, and glad knowing that I wasn't making all this up in my head. There was a pattern, I for the longest time just had to figure that out on my own without the support of my former dr. Who don't get me wrong I love him he is great but something has not been right and he has been unwilling to accept that and just dismiss my symptoms.

Again thank you and you are not the 1st to mention IC, I have researched that as well. It made me feel so much better the other day to get on here and just vent. Made me feel even better when I read your post to know that I am not alone. Hopefully, now it seems that I have a dr that is willing to get to the bottom of this so that I can get on with my life. Again thank you for reading and posting. First the first time in a long time I am confident that this will hopefully be resolved the best it can.

Re: Severe pain and bleeding during and after intercourse, with bleeding

I am glad your appointment went well! I hope with time everything settles down!

I would really encourage you to keep a journal of all of your symptoms to help you and your doctor watch and see what changes occur and don't occur for you. It can be amazing what you can "see" when looking through several days/weeks of notes!
