Climara patch and 7days post-op..questions

I had my last lonely ovary removed seven days ago. They put the patch on me-- estradiol .05-- before I left the hospital. I'm calling my gyn tomorrow w/ some of these questions, but thought maybe someone here has some experience w/ this. Does it take awhile to feel the effects of this patch, or to adjust to them? I've had no hot flashes, but started having leg cramps. Surgeon sent me to the e.r. this morning to rule out blood clots, and did, but I'm wondering if the muscle cramps in both legs are from this patch. If so, would that go away after awhile or no? I'd like to be on the lowest possible dose and will ask about this, but is .050 a high/medium/low dose, or does it depend on the person? I don't feel bad from the surgery itself, but don't feel great either. Low grade headache, and just blah. The surgery was only a week ago and was laparoscopic, so maybe I'm too much in a hurry to feel great. I wasn't feeling awful before the surgery, so I'm just wondering how much is surgery, how much is the patch or if it's even the right dose, and how much time I need to give myself to adjust??? I want to WANT to do all my usual stuff-- go back to work, play w/ kids, etc etc.

Thanks for any advice,

Re: Climara patch and 7days post-op..questions

It takes about 6 weeks to get over the blah feeling though as the anesthetic leaves your body. I think 0.05 is what I was started on after my surgery. I ended up increasing the dose as my stored estrogen wore off.

You will need to give yourself weeks to adjust to each hormone fluctuation. I would wait. I don't know what the muscle cramps are from - are they constant? Do they coincide with changing the patch?
The headache can be due to estrogen fluctuations.

As far as dose strength goes, everyone is different. Depends on body size, age, how much stored estrogen you still have, metabolism, etc...

Keeping a journal will help you and your dr figure out how symptoms coincide with HRT. Best of luck! Take it easy during recovery... it takes about 3 weeks for your internal healing to stabilize.
